My buddy had a similar stand of volunteer Buckwheat last year. His Bee's loved it. I remember back in I believe the late 70's before used for cover crop when farmers were looking at diversifying different crops a local farmer planted 75 acres or so. I remember the scent when in bloom, and it seemed kinda' funky. That was his one and only attempt at it. While it did very well, he had a heck of a time finding someone to take it, and when he did had to truck it 75-80 miles.
Last year at an old tractor/steam show a guy had an old mill set up grinding corn meal, flour, and Buckwheat flour. I asked him where he found the Buckwheat to grind. Actually found it at an old feed mill just a mile away from the show but was between $50-$60 for a 50 lb. bag. And probably explains why he was asking $15 LB. for his Buckwheat flour. That makes for some pretty pricey pancakes.
