I am totally a new kid on the block, which sounds weird at 71

I have driven many pieces of equipment in my days but I have never
owned a tractor.
I have read many of the posts here and so thankful to all for your input and thoughts

I take delivery of my tractor next week. I asked the dealer about a shop service manual and the parts guy said it is 300.00 In my opinion after spending 50K+- that should be standard equipment even if one never does his or her own work on the tractor.

Is that the going price or is there a less expensive option??

About 10 years ago i spent nearly $200 for my parts and shop manual. Ive saved alot of $$$$ over the years finding and fixing my own problems. If you dont intend on doing your own work, i wouldnt get one.

and im not a youngster either, but still do my own work.

Thanks I do plan on doing my own work until it requires taking the machine completely apart

BTW I just noticed that is says SHOE service manual. LOL Thanks for not being critical as so many are these days

I will pay the 300 unless I hear from one of tractor aficionados here that one can be had for less.

I just replaced the oil seals in front axles using my manual. Saved me the amount i paid for the manual just that one fix.

and ive traced down lots of previous issues like relay locations, etc.

now days people spend $90k on cars and trucks, and dont even get real spare tires. Much less service manuals.

Just about no one "gives" away service manuals.
They cost close to $200 per to print and usually, more associated with a publisher as opposed to a tractor manufacturer. Just separate "accounting" nomenclature and all that.
I mean people feel happier if their tractor costs $50,300 and are told "and we'll throw in the service manual". You're gonna pay for it one way or another and usually your first job (including the 50 hr service) pays for the the expenditure anyway.
One suggestion is to see if you can get something on a disc. That would be way cheaper.

Thank you for the input. I have seen manuals on several websites for 20-50 bucks but am leary as its been said theres no such thing as a free lunch or manual

My service manual is nearly 2” thick. With colored fold out wiring diagrams that are coated to protect the pages.

Also, there is one on eBay where bidding has started at $45. No one has bid on it as yet.
Careful of the "year published" as later copies may have updates.

On this eBay page there are others for $36. You could contact the seller as he seems to have several and ask what year these were published.
