Does anyone know if the 2007 model M7040 has to have the CJ-4 rated oil or is it just the 2008 and up? All these new trucks that I see that have to run on the ultra low sulfur say they need a CJ-4 not CI or CF i'm not sure that mine needs it just thought I would ask not sure that dealer knows since he put SAE 30 in it on the first change but the S.E. region service guy for Kubota said it needed 15-40 which I have bought to change after only 10 hrs. on the SAE 30, but the Kubota oil I bought is not CJ-4 rated.

I would be going back to the dealer and have them change the oil. If your dealer does not know what type of oil to put in the engine I can not even dream what they could tear up if the tried to do any major work on your machine. The oil you bought should be ok to run.

What does your owner/operator manual call for?, mine gives me a choice of several weights; 10w30, 20WT, 30WT, 15w40, even 10w40 diesel spec, and what temp span they cover, as well as change intervals as to whether or not it is CJ rated or other than CJ rated. I'm not 100% sure, but the newer oils are only mandatory if the vehicle has converters/particulate traps that can be plugged by the older oils. EGR systems stay cleaner with the newer oils also, but the most recent older oils with higher zinc and phosphorus seem to protect moving parts better.

EDIT: Not sure of the M7040, but other Kubota's can use straight 30WT at temps above 77F. The weight has nothing to do with the quality and additive spec of the oil, there are junk and high quality straight weights out there. My manual calls for oil changes more often if CF-4 or CG-4 and higher is used with high sulfur fuel; if high sulfur fuel is used, a plain CF (no suffixes, older spec) with a TBN above 10 can be used and changed at regular intervals, if newer spec oils are used, changes must be at shorter intervals. You probably no longer have access to high sulfur fuel, so you just need to determine what level of emission equipment you have.

Thanks for the help, I looked at the manual and it said 20W, 30W, 10-30 based on temps. but did not suggest 15W -40 that I am use to using in all of my other diesels that is why I was o.k. with the SAE 30 at first but our temps will go from 10-100 and I will only be using this tractor 100 hrs. a yearso I need an oil that will work for all temps. I changed the UDT to SUDT based on the S.E. region service rep. opion that the multi visc. SUDT oil would be better for two reasons, 1. The flexibility of the multivisc. due to the temp. swings and he said it had additional additives that they recommend for the glideshifts and the hydraulic shuttles which I have. The dealers don't seem to know this or atleast aren't consistent with what they tell you. I'm not sure how to tell what type of emissions equipment I have, but with all that said me and my boys changed the fluids last night after only 10 hrs, we went with Kubota oils 15W-40 and SUDT, mine is a 2007 and I think the extra emissions came in 2008? Any other suggestions would be appreciated and thanks for the help.
