I had Titan 17.5L24 R4 tires on my New Holland TC45DA and they provided terrible traction, so I set out to find a R1 type tire.

I only found one 17.5LR24 / 460/70LR24 tire with a R1 tread pattern the BKT RT 747.

The RT 747 is a radial and thus I hope it flexes better than my old 8 ply bias Titan R4s and helps with traction and ride especially while mowing pastures.

Last year I replaced fronts that were also Titan R4s with the radial Yokohma Alliance 550 Multi Use tires (10-16.5 / 265/70R16.5) and they seem to ride and flex better than the old bias R4s.

The old rear R4s were loaded with water, so I drained them and when no more would run out the valve stem I used a syphon hose to drain as mush of the rest as I could. I was surprised that the old rear R4s with zero air pressure and almost no water still supported the tractor with NO sidewall flex/sag.

It's going to be a while before I do any mowing in the pastures, but I will update on how they do once I start using them.

Today I loaded the rear’s with water in SC water is fine.

The side walls of these BKT RT 747 tires are much more flexible than the the old Titan bias ply rears.

First picture is the Titans with NO air pressure and NO water and the second is the BKT with NO air pressure and NO water.

I have noticed that the 550‘s sharp shoulders dig up when turning while mowing if the ground is soft due to moisture much worse than the bald R4 I replaced.

The other thing is they load up with mud. They do clean out with wheel speed, but they don’t seem like a good mud tire.

What pressure did you run in the old tires? I have a tc40 with balist leaking out of the cracks in the tires but am to cheap to buy new tires/tubes at a bare minimum price of $1300.

Back in my rock crawling days it was typical to run very low or no air pressure in new tires to help work them in a bit.

I’m pretty sure I had 12 psi in them.
