1528 oil change

I was curious how easy/ not easy the engine oil change is on a MF1528. It looks like the eng oil filter is hard to get to, and I can't believe they left so little room to access the oil filler cap. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif I'm torn between the Kubota B3030/2630 and a MF1528 or 1428.

I can't remember for sure but I think that the 1528 oil filler is just like my 1440. There are two filler caps. The one on the top of the engine is really easy to use. The oil filter is also not very hard to get at once you lift the hood.

JerryG, is your fuel tank under the hood or a rear mount?

The fuel tank was moved to the front on the 1500. I forgot that. Mine is at the back. Someone could make it easier to get to by making a PVC funnel. I made one for filling the hydraulic fluid and it works great.

That's what I thought. I seems that MF could have left a hole in the fuel tank with an extention comming up through the tank from the oil filler cap. Anyway, I really like most of what I see in the MF1528. It's probably the quietest and smoothest engine I've seen so far, and I've looked at everything. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

on my 1428v by the oil dipstick is another oil cap to the crankcase,but it has a fine thread on it.as for the oil filter it is tight but the side panel support bracket can be remove with 4 bolts and 2 small bolts for the fuse box.that will give you more room for the oil & fuel filter too. 1428v at 36 hours. at 50 hours i will know if i'm right.the oil filter i'll get a adapter to fit over the oil filter that uses a 3/8 drive socket wrench. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I went back to the MF dealer and found the other oil cap next to the dip stick. Let me know how your oil change went.

Please excuse my reply to the thread from the dead! But I feel this is important for lurkers looking like I did today.

I’d like to add some stuff for those of you who have searched high and freaking low for info. This was my first oil change on a diesel let alone a tractor for my father in law today.

Total nightmare finding actual info. Shop manual doesn’t even tell you oil weight. Virtually no one has filter P/N cross reference.

I did the work for you and I hope I saved your day.

Capacity & weight: 3.6qts 15w40 Rotella Non-Synthetic

Filter: OEM P/N: 72201898

Oreilys WIX Oil Filter P/N (Non-synthetic): 51394

Oreilys WIX XP Oil Filter P/N (Full- synthetic): 51394XP

Get ready to get nasty. Changing the oil on this tractor sucks.

Pan bolt on under inboard starboard side is 3” above frame rail so you can’t use a ratchet do get it completely off. You’re going to need a 3/4” wrench. I used a 3/8 ratchet with a 3/4” socket and a cheater bar to break it loose, the wrench to finish it off.

Filter is sideways on starboard side behind wiring and metal bracketing that’s virtually non removable for the purpose, oil fill plug on port side of block is behind wiring as well and you’ll need a nice long fill tube.

Get a drop cloth, some rags, and get ready! Oil spills all over side of block from filter (requires Type F socket cup or big adjustable plumbing wrench for removal) and on frame rail from the pan bolt. Oil will spill onto frame rail and run down the j channel to the area under where the seat is.

Also learned used year old diesel oil is nasty as ****.
