It’s a manual PTO engagement. You’ll have to look under the dash a little bit. Watch the lever where it makes contact to the switch. The seat switches cause issues as they get older as well. 😊

I’m reasonably sure it’s a safety switch. If it’s a hydro, look where the brakes make contact under the floor board, check the seat switch and your PTO. I bent the switch on the brake and if there’s any snow under the seat, it will mess that one up

Every mechanic I’ve spoken with, regardless of tractor color, tells me most failures are from abuse/neglect. They all have occasional issues, but certainly keeping them under cover and regular maintenance will minimize problems

I’d advise against it, farm/CUT loaders aren’t really designed for that type of work. They don’t have a lot of hydraulic pressure and it doesn’t take a lot to tweak them askew.

John Deere rotary mowers are renowned for catastrophic gearbox failure. One implement I’d avoid buying used is a rotary mower unless you know the history. Those things get the snot beat out of them.

Try them out, see if you like the dealership. Lower price doesn’t always mean lower quality. the only thing I really get concerned about is parts ability down the road. I’d mostly be concerned with whether or not the tractor fits you and the dealership reputation

If you ever think you’ll want one, buy it new now. If you wait until later, when the model is discontinued, you’ll have to buy each individual part and it will be pricey (er)

When I worked for the phone company, we ran it under load for 1/2 hour each month. Generally, you’d find problems before you actually needed it. The problem these days is finding anyone competent to service it correctly.

You’ll need to do a bit of math, but assume 40% of your weight on the front and 60% on the back. Generally, loaded tires/wheel weights and a ballast box or heavy implement are enough.
