We had a nice winter day, 56 degrees, so we trimmed the fruit trees, overdue. Chipper, sure does make a small pile out of a large mess. My new little Mighty Mouse, Milwaukee M12, 6" chain saw is awesome for trimming limbs, especially at the chipper.

Old news. Dodge/Ram has had oem exhaust brakes since '07 with GM and Ford about 10 years later. Prior to that you could add them yourself. I installed my first one in '90. A true Jake brake is a engine compression brake, pickups use exhaust brakes.

This guy does hotshot, for years, with Rams. 3500-4500 and 5500. 440k plus on his '18 4500 when he traded for his '22 5500, he has 172k on it already. He has very little problems and nothing major. Oh, BTW, I recommend Ram:)

Thats a good size. Depending on your tractors lift and reach, you might consider 3' sides. With light weight material they are a plus. Be advised, the PJ Ohio factory can not or will not prime the trailer. Only Texas will. At least this was the case in '20 when I bought mine.

Going off memory here but I think your trailer is rated 38k gvw. So, 40k square hitch and 3" ball would be standard equipment. Even more so, with a deck on the neck. I have not seen a round hitch go over 30k gvw. However, they do make lighter duty square hitches for lighter duty gvw trailers.

Hitch failure on a Diamond C FMAX 212, GVW 25.900k I think. I think the hitch is rated 30k, based on their web site. You can see it has been broken for a long time with the wear marks. Crazy it broke in the first place.

Buy a good heavy duty battery, in about a 700-800 cca and keep it charged every night with the onboard trickle charger. You will be fine unless you dump all day. I haul commercial with my dumps so I have two batteries. Never an issue.

Installed another tarp motor, jacks this time. Nice not having to struggle to hold the drill and it is twice as fast. It won't lift a load, but for sure, it will work empty. Used the same power panel/switch, just used another cable quick connect.

The sleeve is only a temporary fix for most peoples 2" drawbars. To take advantage of the strength of the 2.5", get matching drawbars. I have never used my sleeve... I upgraded my hitch with the purchase of the new truck.

I have trailers with both types, I prefer the double contact plug.

Pull the break away cable and see if the brakes lock up. Has the trailer been sitting for a month or two? High humidity will rust the armature/magnet and have poor brakes for a bit. Grounds are usually suspect.

I agree, probably neglected in it's early life. My '21 Ram 2500 is a pain to pull the cover so I installed a drain plug. I changed it at 500 miles after break in, then just changed it again @ 26k. I do need to get a flush type pipe plug.

That should be a good truck hitch and trailer. The trailer is also adjustable, so between the two hitches you should be fine.

I would assume the factory receiver hitch. The new trucks with the 2.5" or even 3" are rated way up there.

Power up/power down on both, with the PJ equipped with two pumps. Two 800 cca batteries do a lot of dumping. I do have a new high flow pump on order from Diamond C for the Lamar, it is power up/gravity down. Some of the big 8'x20' dually dumps use two scissors hoists, super slow and battery...

They all use the hollow tube. My Lamar and PJ both bent. They are both 36" walls. The actual doors are pretty stout. The Lamar is the best with 4 hinges per side with the PJ using 3. On my Lamar, I cut the tube and inserted a 12" bolt with the head cut off, it don't bend anymore.

Most trailers with 8k axles will be rated for 17-18k, however if you order it, you can have them derated to 16k. Most, not all manufactures, add pin weight to the gvw. I did that on my FMAX208, D/C 102"x28'. I ordered a PJ 22k dump and asked to have it derated. They forgot, and since I hired it...

Keep in mind, any pin weight will be subtracted from the trailer gvw. Also, most published tare weights don't include options. In order to scale a 12k excavator, the trailer will need to weigh around 5k, or more to be up to the task. Don't under estimate your 2500 Ram, it is a serious truck...

Agreed, also depends on the transmission. Is it direct drive, one overdrive or two overdrives, standard or auto. Low rpm diesel needs higher gears v/s a high rpm gasser, they need lower gears. Short local hauls, low gears are good. Going down the big highway, high gears are good.

Thats a picture of a cab & chassis, different truck. The one in question, is a pickup truck with the factory bed removed and flatbed installed. They set the flatbed on top of the original bed mounts.

Those are the factory bed mount brackets, welded from the factory, so Ram, you get a ding.

That trailer would be too specialized for most uses. The fixed load ramps are too close to the ground for off highway. With the axles clear to the rear, a load of hay will give you some heavy pin weight. 20' is also kind of short.

The piston is not threaded, it will have a nut that holds it onto the piston rod. Here is a generic picture.

Maybe bolt a washer on the end of a piece of all thread or bend a hook on some 1/4 rod. If you still can't pull it out, maybe put the rod/all thread in a vice and use the cylinder tube as a sort of slide hammer. You will need something similar to pull the piston.
