    Ballast question; John Deere 5055E;

It excludes the tractor weight on rear axle. JD wants you to load the rear tires on the OOS because it doesn’t have the built in cab weight. I have a 5085e with 540m loader . I’m using 2 wheel weights per side and about 1700lbs on 3 pt hitch, no liquid in tires. I find it’s plenty for my uses...

    Tree shear on mini-ex?

I’ve got quite a few hours operating a mini ex shear mostly in my orchard. My need was to reduce the size of some older overgrown sweet cherry trees that had reached 25-30ft down to a max height of about 20’. With limb diameter generally in the 3-6” range a pole saw wasn’t going to work and at...

Ford 5030 trying to locate hydraulic screen / jerky hydraulics

More pictures of your set up would help👍. Is the tractor new to you? Not sure how familiar you’re with it. First thing I’d check is the flow control down by your right ankle above floor board . Should be clocked fully counter clockwise for max flow, only turns maybe 45 degrees. This controls...

    Improve input controls on excavator?!

For gauges you should get at least 2 , a 1k psi for testing pilot pressure and 5k for working hydraulics . I bought a three gauge kit from amazon mainly for the gauges and the test lines that go to gauges. You’ll end up buying individual fittings to tap the test line into your system at various...

Need to adjust the thumb pressure on my Bobcat mini excavator

yes end without shaft. Just want to make sure you’re adjusting the port relief that regulates the base end of thumb cylinder. My jam nut was 3/4 also. Be a real good idea before you bust the jam nut lose to put a sharpie or paint mark on end of set screw for reference point.

    B3350 Grille Guard Improvement

Thanks, was really quite easy. I like to bolt them on also as RJC says. I’d have to remove them too if I ever want to use suitcase weights on front so that was big reason for bolt on. I also think if you dropped the perforated steel thickness down to 1/8” or little less it could be gently...

Need to adjust the thumb pressure on my Bobcat mini excavator

First step is to locate your thumbs control valve in your main valve stack and see if it has port relief valves. Usually Allen head set screw and jam nut , that’s where you’ll set the relief pressure for your thumb base end . You can plug a 5000psi pressure guage into your quick connect that...

    B3350 Grille Guard Improvement

Here’s a exceedingly easy way to make a excellent grille guard, no drilling or welding involved. I bought a 49”x54” sheet of perforated steel 3/16” thick 3/8” holes on 9/16” centers, enough to make four good sized guards. At $18 a square foot cost a little more than expanded metal but stronger...

    How to crank a 5030?

The thermostart on my 5030 is threaded into the front end of the intake manifold near the fan. When voltage is sent to it the wire coil gets red hot igniting the gravity fed fuel supplied by a small fuel line from tank. As the coil gets hot it opens a heat activated valve allowing the fuel to...

    Shear pin nightmare

One thing I’d make a good inspection of is the Shear coupler itself. Pull it off the tractor pto and with the shear bolt removed see how much wiggle, play and slop there is between the two rotating halfs. Over the years vibration in the driveline can cause excessive wear to it. Have you ever...

Why Can't Someone Make a Good 12' Batwing Cutter?

Have you looked at the JD fc12e model? Weighs 3580lbs , hows that compare to the one you have or others you’ve looked at? I don’t think any manufacturer builds a heavier duty mower in the 12’ foot class, if I was looking to buy it would be at top of my list

    Rear Ballast Weight DIY Build

Not sure if you’re rear tires are filled? Even if they are 2k wouldn’t hurt a thing , be about perfect I’d say. That 4707 looks to be a very stout 3pt 💪. One thing I find important is to tighten your sway bars as much as possible to eliminate swaying saves wear on components

Good thinking on 3 pt ballast for fel., makes a world of difference. I use about 1700lbs on 3 pt of 5085e with no liquid in rear tires, 2 wheel weights/tire though. One thing to remember your going to have to keep the 3pt frame way towards the front of the concrete so the concrete doesn’t...

HELP! My Backhoe won't swing left!

I think these intermittent issues either no swing or no down pressure are very likely the port relief/overload relief valve stuck open. These reliefs are not simple direct acting reliefs. They are pilot operated which are a more precision design with more small moving parts , orings, springs and...

    Loader Valve Leaking Down

    Loader Valve Leaking Down

Here’s a theory, I don’t think we can automatically assume that the rod side of his lift cylinders are completely filled with oil and thus oil leaking past his piston seals has vacancy on the rod side. Two ways I believe this could happen; 1- the load ( especially a heavy one) is dropping...

Gotcha, evidently you’re 93e is designed differently than my 85e . Mine is definitely coming from pump/rail through cooler and then to tank. Glad to hear you got it fixed, did the original filter look to be quite contaminated and restrictive?
  102. S

    JD 5093E Limited losing power

That fuel cooling loop doesn’t flow towards the pump . It routes excess fuel from the pump and hi pressure rail to and through the cooler and back to tank . My 5085e has basically the same set up but it appears they’ve eliminated the in line filter.
  103. S

    JD 5093E Limited losing power

With that low of hours I doubt it’s anything too major. As a easy first step I’d have somebody thumb stroke the transfer pump while you loosen the filter head bleed screw and watch carefully for air bubbles coming out. Probably won’t fix the issue but at least you’ll know if any air made its way...

    Bobcat Boom Leaks Down

No it won’t retract in if it’s filled with oil on both sides of the piston even without seals , there’s no room for the rod. It will extend out with bad piston seals cause the oil has room to go from the small volume side to large volume side
  162. S

    Bobcat Boom Leaks Down

Does it drop if you’re not moving and at idle?. I’d think the boom cylinder would be hydraulically locked on the down/retract stroke with its control valve in neutral. So I’d be inclined to suspect the valve is at fault, spool hanging up or internal wear.
