3 point lever really hard to move, and I bent it - 2014 Mahindra Max 22

Just to share my experience . . . I changed my hydraulic fluid and suddenly found my three point lever much easier to move. I suspect the better and newer fluid helped the insides of the tractor work better. This was on a New Holland TC-40.

    Fighting 'Solar Farm' Installation

It is ironic one can chastise those seeking to use their property in a use they claim destroys the land, yet those same complainers will look upon these power plant installations as though they are a pretty sight? These plants destroyed hundreds of acres from any future farming use. But a...

Shipping container with side doors for storage

Regarding the question about a foundation, you only need four corner supports. They are made to rest on the corners, not in the middle or elsewhere. I agree with setting them up high to let cats get in. But also to avoid the long term effect of rusting out the bottom of the container if they...

Shipping container with side doors for storage

If you just need a simple shelter, the carport idea is about the cheapest. What I use for implements is similar to what tradosaurus pictured except: It has a shed roof - the front is higher than the back this makes for cheaper construction by only building a flat sloping roof, sloping toward...

    Crimping hydraulic hoses at home?

Good question. I use a cutoff grinding wheel and it gets dirt inside. I try to get it all cleaned out by hand and then blow air through. I can't think of any better way to do it.

    The last Barn. (maybe)

A great build thread . . . until I saw the confederate flag. Hard to understand anyone supporting a cause long understood to be antithetical to our country.

Shipping container with side doors for storage

Those containers are butt ugly, but they certainly are a quick fix for getting enclosed storage. I find the door locking mechanism is a hassle to deal with. Since what I store does not need such level of protection, I plan to cut off the door locking system and just put on a couple handles...

TC40DA - PTO Not Fully Disengaging

My 2006 TC40DA PTO shaft continue to spin even though fully disengaged. You can grab the PTO shaft and stop the spinning. But it makes hooking up an implement very difficult. I talked to the dealer who said the "PTO brake" is not working right. The fix is a 6-8 hour repair. Any thoughts on...

    Is it a Saw Vise? Or . . . ?

Patrick, thanks for the lead. I did a search and found out this vise has a long history. There is a really explanatory video on YT called "VERSA VISE or VICE VERSA" where he explains how the vise works and the accessories that make it even more versatile. I noticed in that video there was...

    Is it a Saw Vise? Or . . . ?

[Hopefully this is the best place to post this question.] I was given a vice from a friend. At first I thought it was a saw vise. But then I looked closer and – having no experience with saw vises – I began to reconsider. It has tall vise jaws that can hold a saw blade for sharpening. But is...

Dewalt Grease Gun - How to know tube is empty?

Best addition I ever added to my grease gun was a locking connector. No need to push & hold the connector to the zert fitting. Just lock it on and it never leaks when pushing grease into the fitting. For me, it has been a great addition to my electric grease gun. BTW, mine is a Milwaukee and...

Do I really need a tractor on 1.5 acres?

Johng just mentioned a most important element of the whole decision - having a dealer close by for whatever brand you buy. Since you can't go wrong investing in a tractor (that removes a big part of the question), you can then just decide 'what do I want or need'! They always hold their value...

Do I really need a tractor on 1.5 acres?

I lived on a 1/2 lot, ranch house back in the 80's. And then . . . I ended up buying a JD 950 with a front loader. It was, shall I say, a reflection of my hope to someday own acreage. What I found was the tractor was very useful for many things around the place. Practical? Heck no. Worth...

    DIY Bridge

Lots of good info here. As mentioned, you need to know you drainage area and your storm volume and then you can decide on a culvert. Here is the chart I have used in the past. However, with the increased frequency of +100 year storms (or should I say 500 year storms back to back?!), you will...

Reclaimed wood and 20 mule team Borax help.

Seems there is quite a bit out there about using borax for wood treatment. Within this family of borax, borates, boron and boric acid, they all are toxic to insects. The Hunker website has a good article on how to treat with borax. Pretty much supports what you described.

    TC29 in a pasture rehab.

You Tube has lots of videos about getting abandoned tractors running again. Check out the DieselCreek channel. He does this all the time and shows you the steps he goes through for a variety of engines. It's a rather methodical approach.

Ford 4000 Clutch - Hard to Operate

Thanks Gale and Jerry. Good suggestions. Obviously not wanting to split the case, but it is an old tractor that appears to have spent much of its life sitting in the great outdoors. I'll take a look at the access panel to see what I can see.

Ford 4000 Clutch - Hard to Operate

Just bought a 1964 Ford 4000 (gas version). The clutch has two issues that may (or may not) be related. The clutch pedal is very hard to push/disengage. Almost have to stand up on the pedal to depress it. Is there a way to adjust the spring tension on the clutch pedal? The other issue is...

    Flail Mowers

I have the Bush Hog brand mower. Hey Dude made some good points. I agree that the flail has more points of maintenance since there are many more blades to keep sharp and deal with, as well as belts. But I have never had any issues with maintenance. I just keep it greased and avoid chomping...

    Flail Mowers

I really like my 6' flail mower (pulled behind a 40 Hp tractor). But, you need to be aware it does not leave a nice cut like a rotary. It is halfway between a brush hog and a finish mower in its cut quality. A finish mower will create suction to raise the grass blades. But a flail has no...

What to Look For When Buying a Tractor - My List of Suggestions

Here is my list of what to look for when buying a tractor Use These comments are about compact tractors for use around the home/homestead/small place. I don't have any experience farming row crops, but have owned and cared for over 190 acres at one time and now am working a little 5 acres plat...

    Widen Them Wheels

Call me a fool. I had my TC40 New Holland for almost ten years and FINALLY got around to widening the back wheels. What was I thinking. Years of living with a pucker factor every time is hit a slight slope. Made the whole experience, let's say, less than optimum? I know, the wheels/tires...
