Why so much tongue weight on 22' car hauler trailers?

My trailer is similar to the ones pictured. When it’s not loaded I can easily lift the tongue onto a hitch. Y hand because the ramps are that heavy. I hate to tow it empty and usually fill a 55 gal drum with water at the front of the trailer if it’s going to be 100+ miles empty then dump the...

    New Impact Wrench

I have needed a 3/4 drive only because I hate using an adapter on the really large sockets. But with an adapter my 1/2 Milwaukee has gotten everything off to include large truck tires.

    Horsepower vs Weight

If you fill the rear tires on the M4 I’m sure you’d be pushing 7.5. Fill the fronts for another 3-400. Wheel weights etc.
  155. S

    Horsepower vs Weight

For the work you describe, you are correct. Weight will be much more important than HP. When it comes down to it weight is a measure of how much work a tractor can do, HP is how fast it can do it.

    Tools That Are NEVER Used!!

That’s from when sawyers were real men! Holy cow, do you have to say “hold my beer” before you run that while smoking two cigaretts? I feel my testosterone going up just looking at that!

    Tractor decision

My open station tractor gets just about 3x the hours every year that the cabbed tractor does. If you can only have one open station is really hard to beat. Now a second tractor, that’s tricky 🤣

    Off-Season Plans

Well crap. Missed this behind loader arms and a panel…engine hasn’t popped any warnings which is odd. And the little dangly where it got chewed off, at left, is hot if anyone else was wondering.

    Off-Season Plans

Maybe I could go a few more months? Not sure why I’ve avoided this particular job so long, just not motivating I guess.

    Backhoe installation question

For the assembly you might not have to mount the BH. You may have power beyond hoses that will reach, they are a little long because you generally hook them up first then position the BH under “it’s own power” before final hookup to the tractor. I would confirm in writing they have warranty...

Talk me out of a 460 Rancher

500i is starting to see a lot of issues. Not with the “i” but with how light they went on other components to try and keep it competitive in weight/power ratio with the 46x I think. Lot of broken handles due to thin metal and other breakages not common in their other pro grade saws.
  172. S

Talk me out of a 460 Rancher

I’m sorry but this is completely unhelpful. There are many grades and sizes of saw with those two brands. You’re basically saying “I had cars and I didn’t like them so I got a Honda civic.”

Talk me out of a 460 Rancher

I don’t know how many saws I’ve been around in my life, all of them have leaked over time of left in storage with oil. Husky is having some pretty good sales on a lot of their farm/ranch saws right now which is interesting. If you want a 460 this is probably a good time to buy. If you plan to...

    What happened to Massey Ferguson?

Massey‘s main problem in my opinion is their supply chain, most of the parts are imported and that has been an issue in the past. If you think whatever color you have never breaks, you’re wrong. All tractors need parts at some point. I drive several hours to the massey dealer for my hay...

Non CDL F250 towing 12K trailer across state lines ?

I don’t think anyone is going to pull over an F250 with a gooseneck unless you’ve got a huge machine back there or drive across the scales over some crazy high number. You sound like you’re doing your best to comply with the laws, in this case they are hard to understand short of legal advice...

    Tractor decision

I think these are pretty optimistic numbers…and going from 6’ to 12’ will not more than double your speed that’s a fault in the calculator estimating overlap. Calculators also don’t calculate maneuvering/redirecting, they really just think you’re mowing a straight line at full speed all the time.

    tractor tipping question

So how’s it going to work if there is weight on that wheel but it can’t follow the couture when there’s a hole? Now you’re on three wheels best case? And the “90%” of the weight you’re trying to have on the front axle is now on one wheel of the front axle?

Hopefully you’re not under it. I rolled a four wheeler as a teenager and got flown to the hospital, wasn’t going fast and it’s probably 1/3 or less weight than a compact tractor let alone with BH.

    Finish Mower on steep terrain

That’s going to limit a lot of your mowing to straight up the slope. This will be slow mowing and you’re setting yourself up for erosion issues. With the cost of finish mowers and the terrain you describe I think a zero turn makes a lot of sense.
