    I dunno if this is any help but I have an old Towner disc with iron wheels. Originally the wheels operated with a hand crank, didn't take me long to put a hydraulic cylinder on it. The barrel is for adding water weight.

    We've had this discussion many times here. I believe spaced front tires do help with stability. The front axle pivots until it hits the stops. If the tires are spaced out they hit the stops sooner. Of course, to each their own.

    Cubes and pellets are another popular route for horse feed. I never used either one because any animal parts are completely unrecognizable in those forms. And contamination has happened. The mushroom hay business sounds like a very good option.

    I ran my engine speed up to 2500-2600 while using the chain mower yesterday and today. That is very close to PTO 540 rpm marker and the mower cut better than it had previously on lower rpms. #7 hardened chain holding up well so far, may get a second season out of them before replacement.

    I have an 8 footer. It weighs 500 pounds but that was not enough for scraping weeds off of hard dried clay soil so I added a 55 gallon drum with the potential for another 500 pounds. Now she's heavy enough plus I can add or delete weight by adjusting the water level. (y)

    I use a rock bucket. Most of them are 3" spacing. A 3x6 rock will fall through which is not good. I welded 5/8 rebar midspan between the 3" spaced ribs and that bucket held too much dirt. Rock buckets are a good idea but not the perfect solution

    Nice thing about the set up you are considering is you can put diesel additives in the tank before you fill and you have the mobility to fuel the tractor wherever you need to. I have a 100 gallon tank on skids. An electric pump with a auto shut off fuel nozzle is the bomb. Enjoy the build and use.

    My last tractor got an average of 50 hrs a month over 14 yrs of ranch work. Got a newer Kubota MX5200 last year and put about 250 hrs on it, some hours were hired out for mowing etc. Never had a cab so it sits during the hottest and coldest days.

    The tires are filled on my MX5200 but it was still kind of scary on a side hill I can't avoid. I added 3" spacers in the rear and 2" spacers in front. It made a big difference in the way it acts and feels on side slopes. R&R the filled tires was done with a forklift.

    I have a Bobcat 773, a SS is the best wheelbarrow you will ever own. Getting in and out is a PIA and rearward and side visibility is not the best. I wouldn't recommend it as a solo tractor. It's a supplemental tool for specific tasks. OP's application sounds perfect for a stand up machine.
