Has anyone installed a hydraulic cooler and/or a fan on a mini excavator?

Sorry I don't have any sort of diagrams but I'm happy to try to answer any questions you have.

Importing and modifying a new mini excavator from China

Have you had a chance to use the new MP46 enough to comment on how it performs relative to the smaller 1ish ton machines?

Has anyone installed a hydraulic cooler and/or a fan on a mini excavator?

Yeah that other thread about the filter was from when I added one to my Typhon. I actually just added a cooler to my setup this past Friday and was going to make another thread for that but I'll just post it here instead. Here is the cooler and fan I used: https://www.ebay.com/itm/363718291949...

What did you do with your Chinese baby digger today?

I just added a hydraulic oil cooler today. I had to cut off the mounting ears to make it fit but it turned out pretty good. Pictures attached.

Has anyone found a duct that can be purchased for the 13.5 briggs motors? I've looked a couple times but have not been able to find anything. I have thoughts about making one but that takes more time than I have to spare right now.

Have you picked up the new machine? What do you think about it, and how are the pilot controls?

Importing and modifying a new mini excavator from China

Are you close enough to pick it up yourself or do you have to have it hauled? Is that the one with the twin cylinder gas engine or is it a diesel? What is your total cost going to be for that machine?

I used the rake attachment recently to loosen the soil in our small garden and ended up pulling out a boulder.

    Chinese digger recommendations

Machine looks nice. I'm super tempted to upgrade from my 1 ton typhon with cab to one of these diesel models but I can't justify it. The diesel and pilot controls sure would be nice but the machine I already have is more than capable of doing the small jobs I'm throwing at it.

I put a temperature sender on one of the ports on my return housing so I can keep an eye on hydraulic oil temperature while inside the cab.

I purchased my mini-x from Kamran and had a great buying experience. I too got an offer on a machine I was watching and made a counter offer I never expected them to accept. But then they did accept it. So I had to tell my wife I bought an excavator. 😀

    Chinese mini X paint color

I still haven't come up with a good match for mine. I definitely recall thinking the ones you mentioned might be a good match but I lost track of which ones I tried or saw in person. My local Lowes has cardboard hung up in the spray paint section so you can see what the color looks like once...

That drove me nuts too until I added a cooling fan. Now the sound of the fan running reminds me to throw the main disconnect.

What did you do with your Chinese baby digger today?

That horizontal hydraulic tank seems like a poor design choice. I think in some of the discussion I've seen, the reason they need this extension tube is for cases where the machine is on a steep slope and all the fluid moves to the front or back of the tank and the pickup tube doesn't reach it...

What did you do with your Chinese baby digger today?

I made a template with a heavy piece of cardboard. I was actually pretty surprised when the holes lined up - I was figuring I'd end up having to hog them out. I took it off to do the bulk of the welding and paint. I'll post another picture when I get it mounted back up.

What did you do with your Chinese baby digger today?

I've been working on making a crossbar to run between the drive motors to protect them and prevent the housings from bending out like I've seen in a few posts. This is the first metal fab project I've ever done but so far it seems to be going ok. I've got the brackets built and bolted on - now I...

    Adding Hydraulic Filter on Typhon

I'm glad it worked out for you. It's interesting that the return line was so tight on your machine - mine had plenty of length. I wouldn't be surprised at all if they don't have a specific length they use all the time. I bet as long as it reaches or isn't so long it could be cut up for two uses...

Yeah I got lucky being able to source the fittings from a local shop - it was only about $20 total for both fittings that way.

No there was enough slack/movement in my return line to use it as is. I just had to move it so it routes above the pump housing instead of below it.

Someone in a different thread asked about where I bought the parts -- the fittings were from a local hydraulic shop and the other stuff was: https://www.zoro.com/buyers-products-filter-head-return-line-15-gpm-10-micron-fh625/i/G9108701/ https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0015RODC8...

What did you do with your Chinese baby digger today?

I just added filtration to the return line on my Typhon and the parts cost was about $50 total. I haven't looked into a hydraulic oil cooler yet - I figure I'll wait until it warms up next summer to see if I actually need one or not.

I got a chance today to get a hydraulic filter and temperature sensor plumbed into the return line on my Typhon mini-x today. I thought I'd share a couple pictures and part numbers of what I used in case anyone else has a similar machine and needs to add a filter. I needed two fittings to go...

    Multi-Viscosity Hydraulic Oil

I think it is a gear pump but I thought it would be high pressure all the time regardless of if there is a function active or not. My understanding of the system is that the pump is just direct drive from the engine and it is always pumping high pressure up to the manifold which is directly...

    Multi-Viscosity Hydraulic Oil

    Multi-Viscosity Hydraulic Oil

Anyone have any thoughts on using multi-viscosity hydraulic oil in a 1 ton chinese mini-x? I fired mine up in 15 degree fahrenheit weather recently and the high pressure bypass valve sounded really angry until the oil warmed up. The only well known brand I've found offering it so far is Amsoil...

What was the temperature when you fired it up and did the hydraulic system squawk about it? I fired mine up this past Saturday at about 15 degrees fahrenheit and it was not happy... My bypass valve up in the manifold was making an ugly whirring sound until it warmed up a little.

Ff12 mini excavator stopped rotating after being washed

Groundhog equipment lists a "central rotary motor" which might be the slew motor: https://groundhogequipment.com/parts/ Might be worth calling them. Obviously a different machine but they do sell a similar small machine in their lineup.

Ff12 mini excavator stopped rotating after being washed

If there is no change in the sound of the engine or hydraulic pump when you try to rotate I'd check to see if there is some kind of linkage from the control stick to the hydraulic valve that might have come loose.
  38. drawthree

Ff12 mini excavator stopped rotating after being washed

I don't think there a rotational sensor on the Chinese mini's. I'm pretty sure it's a straight mechanical connection from the control stick to the hydraulic valve that controls flow to the slew motor. What happens when you try to rotate? Any change in the sound of the engine or hydraulic pump?

What did you do with your Chinese baby digger today?

I've heard mention of the pickup tube in the hydraulic tank being too short on some models - maybe even the L12. Definitely sounds like the issue you are describing could be caused by something like that.

What did you do with your Chinese baby digger today?

Sounds right to me - I just didn't want to have to use the extra fitting on both sides of the filter head to get from 3/4 to 1/2 NPT. There's no reason it shouldn't work though. I'm also planning to add a 1/8 NPT temperature sensor into one of the gauge ports on my filter head to give me a...

What did you do with your Chinese baby digger today?

For those who have the DIN M22 x 1.5 return hose called out in the reference sheet (which mine is) I would suggest a different hydraulic filter housing to anyone looking to add one. The one called out in the sheet has a 3/4 NPT inlet and outlet but I haven't been able to find an adapter to go...

What did you do with your Chinese baby digger today?

I ordered a filter head with 1/2 NPT inlets instead. Then I should to get it inline with just 2 adapters.
  43. drawthree

What did you do with your Chinese baby digger today?

I think the adapter for the hydraulic tank side of the housing would be 5307L-15-12, but again I don't see a -12 offered - only the -08. I may end up having to use the -08 1/2 NPT adapters and use another pair of adapters to go from the 1/2 NPT to 3/4 NPT.

What did you do with your Chinese baby digger today?

I did measure the OD of the male side - it's one of the pictures I posted. Based on that measurement I think it's a 22mm and I confirmed it is a 1.5mm thread. I need to adapt to 3/4 NPT inlets on the filter housing. For the hose side of the housing I think I want a 5007L-15-12 adapter, but I...

What did you do with your Chinese baby digger today?

I don't plan to use it much in or on the snow - if I use it again before spring it will just be to clear ice from the driveway again which will already be clear of snow. I mostly wanted it to keep everything dry and for the extra weight. We're actually getting hit with a Nor'easter storm right...

Mine came with the cab already on it. I *think* mine is the same machine as the Typhon branded machines but mine is not branded at all. I bought mine from the "Heavydutymachines" seller on ebay but those folks have a few business's they run. The same folks also run a company called "5 Star...

What did you do with your Chinese baby digger today?

Yes - fuel fill is still under the seat. And it doesn't look too bad to remove the cab. When I need to my plan is to park it under a tree with a heavy branch to hang the chain fall from. Then it's just a few bolts and I should be able to lift the cab straight up. The one unknown is whether the...

What did you do with your Chinese baby digger today?

Now that you mention it I think I've seen the model without the cab advertised at 1000kg and mine is listed at 1150kg so I guess it's about 330lbs? Hard to be sure with the way they play with the specs.

What did you do with your Chinese baby digger today?

It does have 2 eyebolts on top and I picked up a chain fall hoist to be able to lift off the cab if I need to.
  53. drawthree

What did you do with your Chinese baby digger today?

I do like the cab but it absolutely does make it harder to access stuff. If I want to remove a side panel I will need to lift it a little at a minimum or maybe even remove it. The bottom lip covers some bolts that hold on the side panels. It does add a couple hundred pounds to the machine though...
