Great post. However this only works if the pulse line does not have a loop that can cause oil to collect in the pulse line. The pulse line must NOT have a loop between the pump and the pulse port. In other words, the pulse line MUST be all down hill from the pump.

Yep, look like a cable. possible a throttle cable came in contact with the battery positive terminal. See attached. The arrow points to a bare cable.

You said that when you try to start, you hear a "click". I think that the click you hear is either a relay or the starter solenoid. To me, that means that the start circuit is complete, but that the battery voltage/current is not getting to the starter. You need to do the little test I suggested.

If your sure that the switch is bad, just start taking it apart, you know, destroy it and then after connecting the harness connector to the back of the new switch, just plug the new one into the hole.

You could just put some new rings and valve seals in it and go for another 700 hours. Before throwing money at it, make sure that the crankcase ventilation system is working. If it is plugged, the pressure in the crankcase could be causing your excessive oil consumption. Richard

A much easier route is to just suck the oil out of the dipstick hole. Use a gas/oil transfer pump and just suck the oil out. Much simpler and less messy.

I'm not sure, but it appears that the spindles can be removed from the top of the deck. You need to get that belt off and then remove the bolts hold the spindles to the deck. Then you can take the spindle to your work bench and get the pulley off. Richard
