    Cummins B6.7 Octane: Gasoline engine

The gasoline Cummins still won’t have the better thermal efficiency of a diesel Cummins.

How far is too far for driving tractor on the road?

“How far is too far for driving tractor on the road?“ It depends on how long a fella’s license will be suspended. My cousin once had a Ford 2600 as a daily driver. He used the loader bucket for a trunk when he went to the grocery store.

New 2025 Ram 1500 with hurricane engine.

The Hurricane 6 intrigues me. If I lived at high altitude, then I’d be highly tempted to go turbo. To some degree I think the spec sheet hp is pointless when you consider the torque management systems limit the engine. My wife has a 2022 Ram 5.7 Hemi I have a 2018 Ram 2500 Cummins My daily is...

Sub compact new vs used advice

My first tractor was a tiny subcompact, a 1979 Ford 1100, with a loader, and only about 12 hp. It punched above it’s weight, and would “outwork a few men”, but I still found it’s limits fast. It ran great, but the parts supply was very dry. I ultimately sold it and got a new Kioti CX2510...

Sub compact new vs used advice

98 hours is like a used car with 4,000 miles. Still near new. That used one is half the price of new. I’d get it if it met my needs. Give it a thorough look-over before you buy. The odds of it grenading on you are pretty slim. It’s become a buyers market, so try to negotiate with the dealer.

Original True Grit versus the remake. Original Alamo versus the remake. Original Magnificent 7 versus the remake. It’s sacrilege, but I prefer all the remakes. True grit is tough, because I prefer the ending of the original, but overall the remake is superior. It’s also sacrilege to have Billy...

    7K of Trailer for a 5K Tractor

I have a 3-horse trailer on two 5200# axles. It’s an extra tall & wide model. I use it for hauling my horses, naturally. It will fit my tractor if I disconnect the loader. That would be in the event I couldn’t fix the problem myself, and the tractor can move under it’s own power. If it were...

    Buying Advice Any suggestions appreciated

I went used at first. It was good for a couple years, and then the 45 year old Ford snapped an axle. All the years of hauling loads finally propagated a fatigue crack to the point the axle shaft broke and it’s wheel fell off. I had to search high and low to find a replacement used part...

Asking for advice on machine to landscape my yard

I have an acre. Originally I paid $6500 for a cute 1979 Ford 1100. It was my little buddy. A real handy size, and capable of saving my back and arms from being sore. Then one day it’s axle stub shaft separated. It was a known common problem. But, replacements are no longer made. The...

    Best and worst chainsaw?

This. ^ The crank seals are there is keep air out. Once a 2-stroke saw gets a leaky crank seal it’ll suck in air and lean out the mixture. Initially you’ll be thinking the saw is running awesome, aaaaand then the piston squeaks. I learned this riding 2-stroke dirt bikes. On a dirt bike, a...

    Best and worst chainsaw?

my best is an Echo 620PW. It starts easy, runs great, and it’s more saw than I need. Frankly, if the 620 can’t do it, then I need to call a professional. I’m a lefty, and I like the options the wrap handle affords me. Generally the wrap handles don’t seem popular though. I also have a...

    Electric pressure washer reviews

I had a Ryobi electric for about a year. It was my first pressure washer. I used it to spray goose & chicken poop off the patio and blast algae out of horse water buckets. It died after about a year. I replaced it with a Harbor Freight gas model, and the HF is a beast. It’s twice as fast, and...

How much do you care about pre emissions

I’d buy a 10+ year old model if it were new. I wouldn’t pay new price for a 10 year old used tractor. I bought a 25hp compact tractor specifically to avoid emissions. A 25hp does what I need, and twice a week I use it for 12 minutes total. That short duty cycle would likely wreak havoc to a...

    Do you have wheel weights?

I just keep the box scraper on mine. It’s only a 54” box, but it weighs over 500 lbs. Then I wrapped about 80 lbs of chain around it. It’s set much further back than liquid ballast tires would be. The loader will run out of grunt before the rear tires levitate. Not all box scrapers are...

    Don't do it.

My neighbors routinely ask me to do ____ with my tractor. Most think I can dig a deep hole with the loader. The last request I got was to straddle a concrete irrigation canal and drag an unmounted truck tire on a chain through the culvert that runs under the street.

    Talk to me about chippers

I had a 3-point chipper on my tractor. It would eat anything, but like mentioned above it would pass a lot of twigs. It would also clog on freshly cut vegetation. Wear a respirator if you use one. The fine dust it made was not good for the lungs. I bought mine used, used it for one season...

Be gentle with it. As you’ve seen, parts are hard to come by. The front 4X4 axle stub shafts are prone to breaking from fatigue cracks. Last year I had one break and I paid $280 to have a used shaft shipped from Alabama to Arizona. I think it was the last one on the internet. You may have a...

    Engine noise on new CX2510

Yeah, the loader on my CX2510 is VERY responsive. I’d say it’s a tad over-boosted, for lack of knowledge of the proper term. The bucket will raise so fast it nearly pulls the front tires off the ground when I release the lever. I grew accustomed to it quickly, and frankly fast cycle times...

    Engine noise on new CX2510

The bucket level indicator rod on my CX2510 resonates inside it’s sleeve at specific RPMs. It took me a hot minute to track the buzzing noise down. I was worries it was the engine at first too. The rear 3 three point on mine was very jerky as well. There is a dial between your heels to...

Have we been doing it wrong? High rpm's bad when not needed?

If I’m pulling or plowing a given load “X”, the torque felt by the drivetrain will be the same regardless of engine RPM. Either the drive train is overcoming the load or it isn’t. For instance, my pickup can drive a consistent 30 mph in 3rd, 4th, or 5th gear. The engine will be doing...

    Tractor usefulness

I came to this same conclusion in my early 40s. As a young man I would just use my back and physical grunt to get stuff done on my little farm. I’d wake up the next morning feeling beat to heck. The tractor is like having a brother or two to help with chores. When my horses knock down a...

Have we been doing it wrong? High rpm's bad when not needed?

I have a 25 hp Kioti, with no emissions equipment. I typically do non-PTO chores at 1500-1600 RPM. That is where the engine makes max torque and the power output is generally all I need. My only other diesel is a 2018 Ram with intact emissions equipment. It typically sits in the garage 6...

I recently used a Harbor Freight $60 electric pole saw and was very impressed. It cut 3”-4” grapefruit branches like butter. . The only caveat is that it’s corded. I have a heavy 100 foot extension cord that cost double what the saw did, and a portable generator if needed.

    Cx2510 trailer

I have a CX2510, and I really don’t plan to ever take it to the dealer. There is just too much free information online, and the group intelligence here outshines the typical dealer tech, especially after he’s had a couple bong rips. I have a 3-horse trailer I could use in a pinch to get it...

Some blow-by wouldn’t concern me, not at that age. Realistically, do you see yourself putting it into 40 hr per week usage? If you need a full time unit, this ain’t it. Some blow-by at idle could show no appreciable increase over the next few hundred hours. All my diesels, even my 2018...

Will a Stump Bucket damage my FEL?

IMO a stump bucket is no more apt to damage a FEL than an oversized bucket or most any other attachment. Also don’t get hung up on will/wont absolutes. All devices have a finite number of cycles designed. If you nominally exceed the design parameters then you shorten the number of cycles...

I over inflated a tire that is filled with Rim Guard in it.

Can ya throw down a couple blocks of wood and drive over them with the rear tire to angle it a bit. That could drop the fluid level at the valve stem a couple inches. Obviously don’t flip your tractor. I tilt my truck to intentionally overfill my manual transmission a tad, in order to...

    CS2220 vs CX2510

The CX has much more capability. I came off a 50 year old Ford (Shibaura) 13hp tractor when I got my CX2510. I just couldn’t accept the low ground clearance on the CS. Yeah, it has good HP, but tiny tires and low clearance. Plus the super short wheelbase makes leveling really hard. I really...

I think the CK2610/CK2620 is a better deal for the money. I bought the CX2510 because it fits in my garage, it fits in my barn and drives through my breezeways, and on my property I appreciate the maneuverability more. 50 hour fluid and filter change cost?

You simply can’t pay a mechanic enough money to care about your equipment as much as you do. If you could be a fly on the wall at a dealer and hear what the techs say about the customers, watch how the lot jockeys move your hardware around, and witness the BS for yourself… you’d never use a...
