Actually they are used interchangeably. Generally they are behind higher HP engines. I know garbage trucks run both and also coach busses. It's basically the same transmission. If you have worked on the 3k, then you are familiar with the 4k family. Just bigger and heavier parts.

No offense taken. The 6.4 is sketchy but an aftermarket long block and heads, bullet proofed, aftermarket radiator with new turbos and fuel pumps, also straight pipe all the way out the back helps. What i paid for it, it was way less then what the old owner put into it

Trust me I'm not arguing. Everything under the hood and transmission is new (less than 30k miles) no rust. Power locks and windows would be nice but we are getting by without it. I'd just like something new for once.
