    425…changing implements

I was just looking at pictures of the PT 425 and the PT 1430, and it looks like those hydraulic couplers are at different elevations. It appears that the PT 425 always had the couplers in that raised position compared to the 1430. So, I’m just correcting myself! I don’t mean to confuse anybody.

    Hydraulic oil change

Thanks for your comment. I talked to Terry down at Power Trac recently, and he said about whenever doing our 50 hour hydraulic filter change to put some of that oil in a glass mason jar to compare it to new oil. This gives us something to go off of as to how well the oil is doing. Just like you...

    425…changing implements

Something I notice on this new model compared to one’s made around 2016 is that the pipes for the hydraulic couplers are in a higher position. So, obviously the hoses hook up on top of that rotating pipe. With mine it fits better when running the hoses underneath that rotating part on the FEL.

Thanks for this awesome forum! That is interesting about the water contamination and rust. I would have never imagined that problem.

Yeah, I think I’ll use your angle iron idea on the rear of the PT bush hog; thanks.👍

This is a 4 foot bush hog modification that I did to adapt it to my 2425

That’s good to know; I’ll keep that project in mind. I once thought about using chains at the rear of it, but I’m glad I didn’t because those blades run close to the outside.

This is a 4 foot bush hog modification that I did to adapt it to my 2425

That’s a good idea.👍 I often think about doing something like that. Yeah, it would be great if PT would offer the stump jumper and hinged blades.
  8. joshlee

This is a 4 foot bush hog modification that I did to adapt it to my 2425

The stump jumper is 20” in diameter and the blades are 22” from the center of the hole. This is probably my favorite attachment, because I’m so amazed of how much work can be done with it. It’s also such a crude machine, as it has no mercy on brush or small trees.

This is a 4 foot bush hog modification that I did to adapt it to my 2425

I was looking at the PT bush hog and thinking about how I could redesign the angle of the quick attach plate, and then I saw that hole that I forgot about. This made everything easy thanks to some Power Trac engineer.👍

This is a 4 foot bush hog modification that I did to adapt it to my 2425

That was years ago now, and I remember I googled “stump jumpers”and came up with the size that I have. Next week I can measure the stump jumper and the blades for you. I do know where I got the bolts for it because I have that saved in a file.

This is a 4 foot bush hog modification that I did to adapt it to my 2425

Yeah, I took it to a Machine Shop and they drilled out those holes to attach it. I’ve been using it now for a few years and it works out well.

This is a 4 foot bush hog modification that I did to adapt it to my 2425

Your photos give me some ideas for my bush hog. I would like to fix the quick attach plate at an angle like yours, so that I can come down on top of a brush pile like yours can. I have the PT bush hog. I already added the stump jumper and gull wing blades.

Did any of you see the used PT 425 diesel under the “Used” section on the Power Trac website? It looks like an amazing retrofit to me. It’s definitely not your common, sloppy, jury-rigged repair job.

    PT filters

Yeah, that subject would make for some interesting discussion. Today a Deutz repairman came to my place to deliver an alternator for the 1430, and his thoughts were that to make a stock Deutz air filter to fit on this machine, it would need to be mounted outside of the hood somewhere.

    PT filters

I’ll give Napa a try and see if they can come up with anything. I know you have a 1430, too, John; I’ll post on here what I find out. Yeah, the filter PT fitted on these machines seems to work fine. It’s a very basic filter for sure, and one would think it would be fairly simple to cross reference.

There’s definitely something to be said about that test you ran on your intake. That’s very interesting, and I’ll keep that in mind. From what I’ve seen by pictures, the air filter on the 1430 is not as complex as for the 1445 and 1460. One of the reasons why I hate paying such a high price for...

Thanks for your reply, Peter!👍 On the 1430 you can see how Power Trac fit there own custom piece onto the intake to mount this air filter. My guess is they done this for less space. Gas 1430 for sale on PT's site?

Yeah, that would be nice. If I were buying a new 1430, I would see if PT would sell me the machine without the gas engine. Then I would buy a refurbished 2 cylinder Duetz and install it myself.

Does Power Trac advertise at all anymore?

Hi there, everyone. After looking on the Power Trac website I saw how they had a display at the VA farmshow many years ago ( probably 1980's), and I was just wondering if they advertise anymore. I'm under the impression that they don't advertise at all, but maybe I'm wrong. Thanks.

Wanted - PT-425 or PT-1430 in good condition

Hi there 👋 I just got done reading about the property you have and the type of machine your looking for. If I were you I wouldn’t go with a 425 or a 1430. A diesel machine would be more ideal for maintaining a long gravel lane like you have. Also, a heavier machine too, like a 1445 or 1460. I...

How should you use starting fluid? One time at work I seen a guy use it on a diesel engine. The air filter being a few feet away from the can and someone cranking the engine over, he sprayed a mist of it into air, it got taken in through the air filter and started.

The filter on the 425 is in an awkward spot too! That’s amazing how you get that tight enough, although the filter is much smaller than ones for the 1430.
  56. joshlee

First issue with 1430, weak drive power.

No no no, there is nothing wrong with your 1430 acting slow when it is that cold out. Let it warm up for at least 10 min so the hydraulic oil can warm up. Mine does the same thing.

  96. joshlee

    PT-425 Cement Mixer capacity

I like the idea of the power trac mixers. Being able to drive right up to where you’re putting it and dump it right in is what I like about it. Not to mention having it mixed up in that barrel by hydraulic power is a lot easier than mixing it up in a 5 gallon bucket by hand.

I wasn’t disagreeing with your earlier post or anything. It was a little disappointing the day I learned that the hills a John Deere 318, Mahindra 21 or 23hp, and a Steiner 430 can drive up over, my 1430 won’t. I was definitely surprised.
  129. joshlee

Going to Tazewell tomorrow to buy.....

I don’t have to deal with super steep hills around my area, but I did try mowing my cousin’s yard that is super steep. Her yard has to be close to 30°, and my 1430 literally could not drive up it while mowing. So, the PT 1430 is not a machine made for steep hills. She takes her Mahindra right up...

Got it. We learn something new every day.

What did you do with your Power Trac today?

Those are great pictures. I was wondering if your machine came stock with the steering cylinder underneath the footplate?

You’ll be glad you went with the diesel; I couldn’t be any happier with mine.

    Stump grinder mod.

I might do that to mine, thanks 👍

    PT Stump Grinder feedback

I ground about 12 stumps with my grinder. I think it works really well and I’m not so concerned about a beating up my machine. You just have to take off a little bit at a time and not get hog wild with trying to remove too much wood. I think about turning the blade around and reversing the hoses...

Say good bye to the diesel 1430

This is just my opinion, but it seems like superseding a Diesel engine for a gas is going in a backwards direction with things. I don’t know the whole situation though? Maybe they don’t want to go through all the bother of widening the frame for a different Diesel engine?
  136. joshlee

How many new 30 hp gasoline tractors do you see on the market now days?

    48" Brush Hog Re-Assemble

Maybe I could make up packages of these things so that other PT 1430 owners could just buy it and bolt it on.
  138. joshlee

    48" Brush Hog Re-Assemble

I just looked for brush cutter pieces on the internet that would work; stump jumper, blades, and bolts. Then just retro fit things.

    48" Brush Hog Re-Assemble

It would be nice if PT sold them like this.

  142. joshlee

    48" Brush Hog Re-Assemble

Have any of you ever thought of taking a 5/16”-3/8”piece of heavy gauge steel pipe, and welding it on the blade. The bolt head would then be on the inside of this pipe so that the blade would not come around and hit the bolt head; instead, it would hit the pipe. Even better, have a local...

1460 poor traction, gets stuck easy

That braking system sure does sound nice. I play around with the idea of getting a 1445. Maybe next time I go down to Tazewell I’ll see if I can test one out.

    Deutz glow plugs / helical heaters 2011 engines 14XX, 24XX, 18XX PTs

Any kind of electrical accessory on a tractor, vehicle, etc. with a switch, commonly, I thought anyway, the typical thing to do is take the wire from the switch to the fuse box. On my tractor there are open spaces in the fuse box to add more electrical circuits. It is a safe way to do it and it...

    Deutz glow plugs / helical heaters 2011 engines 14XX, 24XX, 18XX PTs

What did you do with your Power Trac today?

Woodland farm, you mean the ends of the steering cylinder?
  148. joshlee

What did you do with your Power Trac today?

I take it it’s not repairable because that round stock is welded tight to the FEL? I don’t know if that means it should be greased more often? That’s the one place on my PT where I get grease all over myself if I’m not careful when hooking up the hoses to the couplers.
  149. joshlee

What did you do with your Power Trac today?

One of the things I noticed on the two grease fittings where the cylinder curls the bucket is that when I put the grease in it’s red and when it comes out the ends it’s black. To me it seems like an area where there’s a lot of wear and requires much-needed grease.
  150. joshlee

What did you do with your Power Trac today?

I never thought about that before with the grease fitting bolts. Can the bolts on our front end loader just be swapped out with these grease fitting bolts?
  151. joshlee

What did you do with your Power Trac today?

I agree; for a 40’ mast. This TV antenna was only about 7’ high. I said, “My word Dad, what were you thinking when you over built this?” It turned out to be a White Elephant as well.
  152. joshlee

What did you do with your Power Trac today?

😄 It’s basically a 5’ cube of concrete. We got in an excavator with a fairly large trac hoe to dig it out, but his machine wouldn’t lift it. He drug it to the trailer then flipped it on.
  153. joshlee

    PT-425 has arrived!

That’s a nice looking setup. The spreader attachment has been on my radar for a while now but haven’t gotten one yet.
  154. joshlee

What did you do with your Power Trac today?

Remember those 1980s TV satellite antennas? My dad poured this chunk of concrete around 1980 for the base of one of those TV antennas. Does this picture look realistic?

    PT-425 has arrived!

What happens with atoms being excited is so amazing, it that creating magnetism. There’s a guy that comes to the clock meetings I go to that is a metallurgist only for stainless steel. I had no idea there were so many types until meeting him. That’s interesting that the price is about the same...
  156. joshlee

What did you do with your Power Trac today?

Yeah ,same here. Terry told me as far as it being detrimental to the machine at all, it’s not. It’s not detrimental because there’s a charge pump that fills the void of whatever oil was lost. Which in our case is small amounts. I’ve been around hydraulic equipment for a while now, and I learned...
  157. joshlee

What did you do with your Power Trac today?

Haha! Yeah, I know what your saying. On this 1430 I have, the leak issue was worth the wheel motors when I bought it. Every single wheel motor leaked but then sealed up. The one front wheel motor, every once in a while will seep a little bit of oil out.
  158. joshlee

What did you do with your Power Trac today?

That gasket there usually seals up with time from what Terry told me. I had that issue on the 425 I had years ago. I think maybe this 1430 I have leaked a small amount when I first got it at that same spot.
  159. joshlee

    PT-425 has arrived!

Most types of stainless steel are non-magnetic, right?
  160. joshlee

    PT-425 has arrived!

That would be shocking if it was stainless. They might’ve gotten sick of all the gas tank issues they used to have with the plastic ones years ago, so went all out with a stainless one?
  161. joshlee

What did you do with your Power Trac today?

Yeah, the tires spin fine on mine. Here recently I just replaced the fuel shut off solenoid that went bad. The machine is four years old with almost 500 hours. Did the 1460 have any issues when you were testing it out down at Tazewell?
  162. joshlee

What did you do with your Power Trac today?

Do you mean spinning the tires when pushing against something? Yes, my tires will spin that way. It’s interesting you say about that check ball in the draft control. I have to turn the draft on only when I am moving or the oil goes somewhere and my wheel motors won’t drive. So I learned to flip...
  163. joshlee

    PT-425 has arrived!

Nice! Does it have a aluminum gas tank? I always heard good things about the Kohler engine they put in the 425. I like 3D printer coupler covers. 👍
  164. joshlee

What did you do with your Power Trac today?

It’s interesting how the 1460 does better driving up hills .That surprised me about my 1430; it doesn’t do well going up steep hills. That 1460 would’ve been nice this winter because we had lots of snow. I was somewhere close to 18 hours of plowing snow this winter, and when those snows are...

    Hydraulic Filter Change Problem

Yeah, I know the battery cable your talking about. PT-1430 Utility Grapple

Yeah, I can definitely see how the Chinese attachment plate would hinder your visibility. There are some interesting photos on this...

Deutz Oil Cooled Engine Not Being Made Anymore

I was just to the Deutz shop, and they told me that the very reliable, rugged, and compact Deutz oil cooled engines could not comply with emissions anymore, so now this line of engines are being made water cooled. Went down to Tazwel yesterday

Oh, about the oil. It might be in the Deutz manual, but I couldn't find where it said anything about an early break in oil change. Went down to Tazwel yesterday

The name of this air gun is Radiator Genie and it works great. It blows air at a high pressure so it drains my air tank quick. PowerTrac Specific Modifications

The part marked "A" is where the original handle was and "B" is the one that I welded on for the stop. The pipe being on there gets the handle away from the side a couple of inches ,so I don't skin my knuckles on that plate steel when putting the brake on/off.
