    Suggestions for tree removal

I understand rur I understand rural. When we picked up this place about 10-15 years ago we were told that in about 4,000 acres area that we increased the population significantly - up to a total of 1 dozen (yes, 12). I think since COVID we are probably at ~20. We tell folks we aren't out in the...

    Suggestions for tree removal

I agree with CalG with this one addition. If you can't get your tractor close enough on the back side if the fence, and you don't have the lift height on your bucket to hold the tree with a strap. You might consider using what looks like a tree covered in vines at ~1 o'clock (poss poison...

Sthil Commercial Line Trimmers with 4 Cycle engines (still require 50:1 fuel/oil mix) - any experience

Like you, I'm having some serious issues (possibly just mental, though) about A) A 4 stroker with mix and B) the lack of an oil sump. I get it though, diesel is just a dirty mix of oil & a form of gas (yes, I know that's a stretch) without sumps and 2 strokers don't have sumps. I guess my...

    Should I buy this truck?

That actually looks, and sounds like a mighty fine truck that you found considering your budget. After reading through most of these posts, I think my 2 cents might make some sense. I have a Bad Boy ZT Elite 60" I use it for the areas that aren't wet on about 7 acres. How do farmers make any money?

Please correct me if I'm mistaken, but I am under the impression that only Row Croppers (oh and Green energy, if you call that farming) get subsidized. How do farmers make any money?

'Round here, there's a saying about row croppers. It goes like this: Why is the row croppers hat bill really narrow and curved? How far is too far for driving tractor on the road?

I don't think he realized that my tym 1003 is 100hp. He may have thought TYM models are simular to JDs numbering schemes - maybe he thought it was a 30hp. As I responded to him, specs show the 1003 runs 8gph @ 60% pto. If the specs are correct, which I have no reason to believe they aren't...

How far is too far for driving tractor on the road?

The 1003 is 100hp, the 8gph @ 60% (pto) is from the specs. The 10-12 was calculated at 40% more, maybe it isn't linear. I don't keep track of the gph, I just keep track of the $$$.

How far is too far for driving tractor on the road?

I've done 15-20ish miles, but my tractor does ~25mph and that wasn't very fun for this old back. Also, what type of fuel consumption would you be looking at? High fuel cost and wood

I volunteer 1 day a week at a butcher shop except during the busiest part of the farm season (non-USDA) - Used to do more, but can't anymore. Have learned a lot over the past several years. For example, You don't "have to" hang beef, but it does taste much better if you do. Big corporate shops...

There are still a really large flock/herd of wild mustangs in the desert SW (South East CA, AZ, NM, ETC)

Those are good boards and still somewhat cheap down here too. I also use the round edged "landscape" boards for posts, "almost" 4x4's etc. HD, still selling the 8 footers here for ~$4-5 ea. If I need to, I'll run then through the planer to make them "pretty".

I've eaten quite a bit of horse meat in my life (in various countries). To me, it tastes like lean beef, not gamey at all. If anything it "might" be just a bit sweeter than beef, but if do just a bit. On the porcupine, you probably didn't remove the scent gland from the armpits. Makes it really...

Your wood stove will be next. Regardless if EPA or not. If it isn't the nutsy socialist environment folks it'll be the tree huggers. Don't forget to put your cows in plastic bubbles, wouldn't want their farts to cause the end of the world someday!

Keep firewood same price and do like the trucking companies do and charge a fuel surcharge. Modify surcharge up/down according to fuel cost.

Had to buy a new toy today..

Used to have the diesel version, ran long & hard but fuel pump started to go - pretty much have to replace 1/2 the engine to fix - so traded off last year for a sweet deal 2020 4010 trans camo (I could care less about the camo) with 10 hrs. Guy who bought it said it was too slow - max speed...

    Underground electric/drainage question

Typically drainage comes from the bottom up on drain tile pipes, not as much as from the top down. Hence, the reason for putting drain holes down (single side/hole) or sides (2 side holes). This said, the conduit would be sitting in water anyway. Typically, crushed rock (without fines - I've...

I agree, my small Kubota was on the hood and a real pia to fill without spilling. My Mahindra is by the steps low. I haven't had issues with it (yet), but could see a possible issue if a rock, etc happened to hit it (tank is plastic). Maybe I'm just paranoid, but ...

I use an IBC tote (275 gal) with a 12v pump that uses a small gell pack (like you find in an emergency light) that is charged by a small solar cell. All in, the entire system including IBC, pump, fittings, filter, solar panel, etc ~$350 - pump w/hoses & nozzle was $275 on sale. The IBC fits...

Hay Farmers getting out of farming

Think it really depends on a couple of things. First, is the hay only for short winters (depend on location) and do you/they have ample pasture for the rest of the year. Second, are the stockers for barn sales, personal use or outside sales. During Covid, I saw some really, really crappy cows...
