Not really a comparison thread. But I now own both these machines.
Just picked up a '17 3550 with R4's, cab, loader, 4wd ~600hrs
Some may remember my quest a few years ago saying I wished a mfg would produce a tractor...HST.....with something larger than 9.5x16 or 12-16.5 front wheels/tires...
So I decided to add a Mahindra 3550 to by fleet. Hst, cab, loader, 4wd...600hrs.
A few things need addressed
Tie rod boots are both shot. So I'll fix that.
But also the loader kickstand is MIA
Don't even know what a dealer would charge or what one would cost. But I just plan on making one...
Finally got everything done with solar....so time to dump some pics.
Site prep was challenging.... hillside....
The racking is Sinclair sky-rack 2.0 seasonal adjust. They spec'd a 7' deep hole 24" in diameter. Had to make an auger extension for that.
Panels are Canadian solar 540w bifacial...
Long story short....My local coop/electric company have made some favorable changes to their residential net metering policies that now has me re-evaluating going solar.
Basically I currently pay $51 as "meter" charge. Thats simply the pleasure of being hooked to their grid.
Beyond that, I pay...
I am battling a claim being denied by my insurance right now and am frustrated to say the least.
This is not at my place, rather at a 3-unit apartment I own.
Back in December I had a tenant call be because of an unusually high electric bill and it was discovered that the T&P valve on the water...
Gonna be helping a friend of mine put a new roof on his house. My house will get a new roof at some point as well so the question becomes....when going from shingles to metal, what is the BEST way to do it. Cause it seems there is a handful of different ways, and just like building a pole...
Never really got serious but have always said it would be nice to have a pair of the 12-16.5 R4 tires on the front of my MX to compliment the AG's on the rear, since they are wider than the normal AG's on the front....but still the same diameter so it wont mess up 4x4
Happened across an ad...
Long story...
I have a 3-unit rental over top of a concrete crawl space.
The hot water heaters all have the T&P valve piped down to a PVC floor drain that goes into the crawl space, makes a 90, goes over 4', then 90's down to a floor drain.
One unit had the T&P valve fail. And they didnt...
Since I got my trailer earlier this year I have been out of the trailer shopping game. But still see them on marketplace all the time for sale.
Back when I was trailer shopping.....I noticed a lot of people would often say things like "I haul (insert equipment here) no problem"
Look up specs...
Did a quick look and dont seem too economical anymore. Unless I am looking in the wrong places for components.
We used to shoot alot of clays 20-25 years ago. And reloaded alot, and even back then the savings wasnt much.
Just did some shooting with a friend last weekend and ordering some more...
Looking to upgrade to a midsized SUV. Currently have a jeep compass and with kids getting older....its just getting a little small. Finding more and more reasons for a 3rd row seat and/or the ability to fold them down and have more cargo room.
5 models keep coming up in my search parameters...
Just saw one for sale near me. Cannot find any info on them at all?
Obviously not a super expensive one....but at $650?
They have a PDF manual....listed at 420lbs for a 5'. But the buy-now button for finding dealers is a broken link. And the buy online links to everything attachments page but...
Prompted by another thread.....And numerous times on here people talk about doing driveway work....I was wanting to compile a spreadsheet for my own curiosity (and maybe it could be made a sticky here somewhere).....of the different stone grades/sizes in your state.
My goal is to get all 50...
So I finally purchased a trailer after 2+ years of on/off shopping. Its a 2015 24' 14k AMO bumper pull.
Trailer was overall pretty good shape. But I swear about every used trailer I saw of just about every brand.....its like they do minimal paint/prep work on the under side of the trailer. All...
So....I've had a 3-14 plow for several years. Never had an issue with pulling it with the MX. But being a smaller, older, Ferguson plow, and no trash/cover boards, or even a good way to attach some, the plow would constantly load up on corn stubble no matter how I prepped the field.
Here is...
Dont really see a good way to flash around a chimney wall thimble for a pole barn.
Show some pics or a description of what you did if you have a chimney going through a wall with standard metal siding.
Going to help a friend put up chimney....and this trim/flashing detail has us stumped...
My uncle is having an issue with his mower. He's not too handy working on things.
I was over there last week because it wouldnt start. Park brake wasnt set that time....but they have been having issues. After setting the park brake, sometimes it took a few trys cycling the key.
Pulled the hot...
Dads mower has a leaky wheel motor. Pretty sure its leaking between the sections. Each section is sealed with a square profile o-ring....and seal kits are avaliable.
But when taking it apart and looking at it...we are pondering what keeps oil from leaking around the bolt heads?
If you have ever...
Wondering if anyone knows of a company (or if any company even makes) as sickle mower that can mow off BOTH sides of the back of the tractor?
Kinda like a roll-over or two way plow that can operate both directions.
For mowing under solar panels, a typical sickle bar mower is at best only 50%...
I am in the design stage for a little garage. Initial plan was to go 20x24....with trusses spanning the 20'.
Then a neighbor offered me some free trusses that were from a deconstructed garage. Problem is I dont know if they were 2'OC or 4'OC and they are 24' span
They are a common truss, and...
Was working on a friend's 331 mini excavator and ran across a few fittings that have an o-ring on the sealing part of the JIC male fitting.
This is a first for me. Just goes to show I don't know everything and still learning myself.
Anyone else run across these?
Interesting story.
I do mechanical work (equipment, trucks, trailers, etc) a few days a week for a buddy's landscape company.
This buddy has a partner that I don't really get along with and is a worthless POS in my opinion.
My latest project involved removing a flatbed from a 2005 F450 and...
Can't seem to find a tap. Fairly certain the thread is acme. Don't know if I posted this a few years ago or not....but this project has been on back burner and I am back to tackling it again.
I have an old Columbian vise....5" jaws 8" opening. Here it is next to my Wilton bullet for scale...
I always browse marketplace and Craigslist cause ya never know when something will catch your eye.
Up until a few years ago, there was never a shortage of $800-$2000 N-series Ford tractors for sale. With an occasional hundred series for $3000-$4000.
Now it seems I am seeing an awful lot of...
Anyone know what the 3ph on the 630 is rated to lift. Cant seem to find any info online.
Got pallet forks for the 3PH for shuttling totes of maple sap around and for collecting sap. Past few years we have used my MX and without the loader on the front, I can handle about 210 gallons in the tote...
Boy this could go in about a dozen forums. General repair, Kubota, welding, projects, snow removal, etc but here I guess will do.
My bota MX has the telescoping stabilizers. The old L3400 had the turnbuckles.
I know everyone raves about the telescoping ones. But I haven't liked them since day...
The landscape company I do work for is looking for some ideas on modifying a trailer.
They have a 10k 20' trailer that they want to dedicate to the mini skidloader (think toro dingo but its actually a ditch-witch).
The mini is under 3k lbs, but there is a few attachmetns they what to keep on...
Dryer quit working. Sure enough it's the thermal fuse.
I can order one online...but this being Friday I'd me looking at middle of next week.

Not often I ask a hydraulic question...lol. But I am on a quest to find a valve that my not exist for a specific application.

I know quite a few here have a dump trailer. Anyone decide to direct wire to run off the trucks battery?
I see it is a fairly common thing cause when googling it, lots of posts on landscape type forums.
I only dump the dump trailer with the electric maybe 20-30 times a year. Most of the time...
As some of you know, I have been looking for a 24' gooseneck equipment trailer for some time now. NOT a deck over.
I have a 20+5 dual tandem deck-over. And it's overkill for my MX and my mini ex that weighs about 8k.
The empty trailer weight is 6500 pounds or so...and 8 tires on the ground...
Been looking for a drop deck 24-26' 14k gooseneck trailer for awhile now. Dont really "need" one as my dual tandem 25' works fine. Just wanted to upgrade to newer, lower deck for easier loading, and less weight/better mileage since I have no need for a 24k trailer anymore.
Started looking last...
Wondering what everyone's thoughts are and if there would be demand for bigger HST machines?
Seems MFG's have hit a plateau. The MX like is as big as Kubota goes, and 4000 series Deere. Other MFG's stop at the same size class of machine....which seems to be one size/series short of what I'd...
Going through all the pins and bushings related to the bucket and thumb on my 334 (same as a 331 but longer arm).
The two straps (~3/4" thick) on the sides hook to a cast like H shaped piece. Said piece I have tweaked....when the retainers for the two side straps flew off. Resuling in bending...
Im not used to the new search feature.
Alot of people didnt like the old search feature of the forum, however it did exactly as I wanted it to and it seems the new one does not.
The only time I normally use the search feature is to search my username "LD1".
I do this, because as busy as this...
Wondering if there is anyone that frequents here that works at a GM dealer service/parts dept. I got a perplexing problem.

Has anyone else noticed that everytime something newer and faster comes out....the predecessor gets ALOT worse?

Got a Parker UHT on a mower they chatters pretty violently when under load and warm. Tore it apart and it appears the parts that are toast are not serviceable.
New pump/motor combo is $2200 from Toro.
I have 3 options as I see it.
1. Free. I have a mill and lathe. I can dress these parts up...
I currently have a 25' dual tandem 24k deckover gooseneck. Since I sold my old backhoe and now the heaviest I have is my MX5100 and my Bobcat 334....(both about 8k pounds max) the trailer is a little overkill. And its not getting any younger. So I am considering selling it and getting a 24'...
Posed this question on lawnsite and awaiting a response.
With years of industrial experience I am very familiar with the difference between 5v and B section belts. And they are pretty much considered NOT interchangeable and even use different pulleys/sheaves

Thinking about getting a 7' cutter for my mowing business.
Currently running a woods ds96 8' twin. Which does great on regulars that I mow 2-3 times a year. Knee to waist high stuff (weeds and grasses)and it leaves a great cut.
Still fighting with the stubborn stemmy stuff when it gets 4-6...
For the last 10 years I have had a Scag wildcat, 61" deck, and Kohler command pro 27 (27hp). Mower is about 15 years old.
Dad has a nearly identical zero turn. Bobcat flavor, zt223 model. 61" cut, 23hp Kawasaki, also about 15 years old.
I mow about 4-1/2 acres. Takes me exactly 2 hours to mow...
Just wondering what everyone is using to AFFORDABLY control weeds in your pond
My pond is ~0.8 acres and ~5' average depth. About 1.35 million gallons....or about 4 acre/ft of water.
Most of the stuff is stupid expensive. Like anything with the active ingredient Fluridone....(trade name...
I drug my feet last winter and didn't get my bushhog painted. So was gonna wait til next winter, but its gonna be wet for the next 5 days and I have time. So thinking about painting now.

Has anyone used the...
Three basic types of wheel bearings that I know of. And have replaced all three many times.
1. Pair of tapered rollers. Manually setting preload and repacking frequently. Like 1980's trucks
2. Hub assemblies. More expensive....but no pressing required. All the 2003-2008 trucks I have worked on...
Hows everyones system handling the cold?
My 4-ton geo unit is hanging in there. No backup. My system was set to kick the second stage on if its on first stage for more than an hour and not been satisfied. But its a "smart" stat with a "learning algorithm" meaning that it wont necessarily kick...
Had a bad day.
Apparently my oil pressure light is burnt out and I never paid attention.
Just changed oil about 5 hours ago so didn't even think to check. Last mowing job must have had a stick dislodge the oil dipstick. Was 4-5 qts low. Spun front end bearing. Damage done. Lesson...
Wanting to get something to serve 2 puropses.

Looking for opinions on what everyone thinks is the best and why.
Seems there is alot of stuff out there, rubberized coatings, oils, fluid film, mixed used oil and diesel in a sprayer, ziebart...etc
Lots of options. Anyone have any issues with what works best in the "salt-belt"
Last truck...
Just wanting to hear what others thoughts and opinions are.
Current truck is a 2005 Dodge 3500 DRW with 99k miles.
Low miles but age/time is killing this truck. Getting to the point I am lacking confidence in it's reliability to get me, tractor, and trailer to and from my jobs.
I have had...
I got 1-1/2 acres that I plowed and disc'd last year and planted soy beans. This is for wildlife (food plot).
Beans were Roundup ready, and sprayed last year.
This year, I didn't get around to spraying, but plowed and disc'd and planted Monday. Planted open pollinated (non-roundup ready) corn...
A friend is getting ready to break ground for a new house build. Will be about 550' off the road.
Water company recommends 2" water line.
Black PE pipe is most common water line in our area, and probably the most affordable too.
The issue he is having is that in 2" size, the longest roll he...
Ok guys, I have mentioned in a few other threads that I acquired a locked up old screw compressor. A joy twistair TA010....40cfm compressor.
I didnt want to invest too heavily in this project because I honestly didnt know weather or not I could save it.
Well, so far with minimal investment in...
Quick question regarding phase converters here.
Got this 10hp rotary screw air compressor.....that was seized up. Before I invest money in figruing out how to power it (swap to single phase motor, VFD, or whatever).....I want to see if the rebuild is even gonna work.
The thing is old and in...
Another question regarding some 3 phase equipment.
Along with the twistair compressor I got....I also acquired a old.monarch 16x54 lathe.
I have a junk (by comparison) clausing 1500 now in the shop....but it's actually a friends and at some point he is gonna want it back. So I got this...
As the title says, would here is running a 3 phase air compressor with a phase converter.

But ran low on oil and locked up. So...
Not really a good forum to post this in.....and not a member of anywhere else that may yield better answers....but figure with many people here someone might know.

Gonna be buying a used 4-seat side by side.
Wondering what the issues or ramifications are if I leave the title in the open state, rather than transfer to my name....and subsequently pay lots of tax?
Probably gonna have this vehicle forever until it's worthless really. And if I ever gange my...
Done alot of cutting the past week or so. So thought I'd share some pics.
This is the first real hardcore cutting with the MX and grapple.....and man what a timesaver that is.
Dont have to chain and drag logs anymore. Just latch on with the grapple and skid to the staging area for bucking and...
Anyone ever found an aftermarket source for the inner tie rod boots? Probably the same as several other kubota models but its on a MX5100
OEM # is 35080-44680
In the ~1-1/2 years I have had the tractor, I have probably torn and replaced 5. They are a thin rubber and in an exposed area. And no...
May sound like a stupid question but gotta ask for reasons I'll explain later.
Is there a technically correct orientation to installing disc brake pads. Meaning is there a way to "technically" put them on backwards or upside-down with regard to anything. Like squeaker on top or bottom? Or a...
Anyone else out there in northern climates have goldfish/koi ponds? And if so, what do you do about winterization?
At my old house, I dug a ~10x20 pond that was ~4' deep. And approx 3000 gallons. I had one of them 1200gph fountain pumps right in the middle that set on the bottom and had a riser...
Son hit the back of his head on the computer desk at the inlaws.

Old trailer mover we threw together years ago wasn't QH compatible.
Didn't like removing the QH Everytime.
So today, starting to make one.
Not sure yet if I am gonna use 1-1/8 removable pins (to use without a QH)....or if I'm just gonna weld some clevis style pins on solid. And can go as big...
Want to get a cat 2 quick hitch. Never had one with the old L3400 cause nothing would fit it. Homemade implements, old disc's and plows and cultivators, etc. 1950's -1980's implements weren't designed for such, and most weren't difficult to hook anyway.
Now with a cat 2 mx5100....stuff isn't...
Hoping someone can offer some assistance on some multiple electrical (lighting) issues I am having.
It would probably be easier to list off the lights that DO work, but here is a list of those that dont:

Left turn/brake
Both backup lights
Center high mount stop lamps
Both front...
Got stuck pretty good today mowing a property I have mowed several times.
It was always soft in this area, but was unusually soft today, and had the loader on adding weight so I don't think that helped matters.
Luckily I was only 15 min from home and had dad drive the truck while I was on the...
Just got to thinking that we should be getting close to 5M posts, as it's been awhile.
At our current rate, we are still 32-36 weeks away.
Didn't seem like it took this long to go from 2-3, 3-4??
So I had to do some checking.
2m to 3m took 824 days and 1213 posts/day average
3m to 4m 856...
Dad is considering parting ways with his SQ84t and dropping to a 6' single spindle cutter. Not a whole lot out there for sale now at a reasonable price in the used market.
I just sold my 306. But it only had a 1:1 gearbox (10k blade speed) and was heavy at ~1050# Which on his tractor would...
Whated to start an herbicide discussion. My lawn is anything but nice. And don't really desire a golf course lawn either. But have ALOT of weeds.

Been looking to awhile for a good used rear blade with hydraulics to match my mx5100. My 7' blade just wasn't wide enough to cover tracks when angled, and lacked offset. It was a kk HD blade, 7', 700# and had no problem cutting in. But it was time for an upgrade.
Deal not final, bit struck a...
I know there are some diesel truck buffs on this forum. What is the best chip/tuner/programmer for a 2005 5.9L cummins?
I know nothing about chips. Dont want something that is gonna prematurely wear out the drive-train. Just looking for something for a tad more power to maintain speed on some...
Just bought a Dump trailer made by forest river out of Elkhart Indiana. Anyone ever heard of them. A local dealer carries their line of trailers. And after looking for many many months on craigslist for a decent dump trailer, and all I was seeing was used trailers for more than I could get a new...
Thought I would share this and see what some of you all think. This is not my ordeal, rather it is my cousins.

Need the assistance of the TBN brain trust.
Got a weeping hose on my mx5100. Weeping several places through the hose.
The hose ends are labeled SF-PF-04-14.
Googling seems to lead me to "parallel pipe female thread union" as the type.
They have a 30 degree inverted flare. Is this just...
Just good timing because I dont think it would have lasted very long on c-list. Saw it 16 min after it went up and called immediatly. Wasnt even in the market for a tiller.
He was asking $125. But had no way to load it into the bed of a pickup, and I had my gooseneck burried, plow on truck...
Bushhog model 175-09......Any one got any old literature or specs. Cant seem to find anything online. There is one for sale a few hours from me, been looking for a good 8 or 9' heavy duty all hydraulic blade. And this seems to fit the bill but a discontinued model. Looks just like their current...
I need a new t-stat, and has to have a specific feature, and hoping someone could point me in the right direction.

Been wanting to put a plow on the MX. The last few years I have been plowing my drive at the house and shop with the rear blade on my old L3400, which does a nice job. But now that I got the MX, SSQA, and a diverter, it was time to put an actual plow on.
Rather than buying a ~$120 blank SSQA...
I grew up in an old farm house and was used to the occasional increase in temp when someone flushed a toilet. Just thought thats the way things were, and anytime someone was in the shower, you didnt run water period.

Kicking around a crazy idea here and havent found anyone who has done similar.
Been looking for a nice ~9'-10' hoe attachment for the back of the MX. Been browsing and seeing lots of 3PH and 4-point mounted ones, that look nice and prices are good.....but.....they are all a farther drive than I...
Got a big rock along with the purchase of a JD210 disc. So had to get it the 1.5 mile journey home. It was a big one. Roughly 5' x 4' x 2'. Guessing 6000-7000#
Got my new-to-me disc. Overall not too bad. The bearings need replaced in one rear gang thats locked up. But the MX pulled it with no issues at all, both up and down hill in the corn field, then through the freshly plowed garden. With the one rear gang locked up, not sure if that makes it pull...
Having some issues with my HVAC unit. Looking to see if any knowledgable folks have ever had similar issues like this before.
The unit is a 4-ton Geo-cool geothermal unit, with a Pro1 digital t-stat.
There are 4 diagnostic LEDS on the front of the furnace. High pressure, Low pressure...
Anyone got specs. Just saw one on c-list for a good price. Kinda looking for a little 3PH hoe for the MX 5100. Most likely would convert to frame mount. Also saw a kelly B30F on there for similar money, but no idea and cannot find specs on it. Both are $2000 range. Which is about the most I...
Picked up a 3-bottom plow a month or so ago, and decided to see what it could do. So I got couple acres that I just bushhog a few times a year, but is pretty rough. From clearing the fence lines, taking out old trees, putting in some tile, etc. I decided the ground needs a good once-over.
So...
Anyone know anything about this model. I cannot seem to find anything online. Got one not too far away I may be interested in. Has a hydraulic cylinder, but appears to be for offset. Dont look like the blade angles other than what it does when offsetting.
Also, no idea on weight. ITs an 8'...
I get this scenerio quite a lot, and am never sure how to word, or handle it, so I thought I'd run it by the masses and see how you all handle these situations.
For starters, I have a job and I am happy. But could things be better???? I think so, but never know until you "shop around" so to...
I just don't understand some people.
I advertise my bushhogging by a few different means, including Craigslist....which by far brings me the most business, but also brings me the most inconsiderate people.
I got a text at 11:59 PM reference my c-list ad (that I keep updated every week) asking...
This mower cuts phenomenal and very fast on my regular jobs. The ones that get done monthly or every other month. The 12" tall stuff. And when I say fast....that's 7mph.
Here is part of the 9 acre job I just did this morning. Full speed, medium range...7.3 more iirc
But the thing don't do so...
Any one have any good resources for the various different dish styles, receivers, and eyes....and what's compatible with what?

Last time I called them....maybe last year, to inquire about tv at the shop, they...
What is the biggest you guys have ran?
I am in need of a disc. Dad always had a disc, and we always used it quite a bit. He actually just had a couple, and always see these little 6-8' discs pretty cheap. So he fixed his up and sold it and planned to buy an other in need. But the craigslist...
Let me start by saying I really like this mower and its features and bought it used 5 or 6 years ago. I like the ergonomics, feedback of the controls, how it handles, serviceability, etc etc.
But the "A" deck just sucks. I have read quite a few threads on other forums pertaining to the same...
Got my diverter finally all assembled and tested. Wanted to get it done now because I came home with these:
Here is the master material list. When it comes to the hoses and fittings, oart numbers and prices are for reference only. And is exactaly what I would order if I were doing this. But I...
As promised, a new thread detailing the 3 remotes and TNT build.
Here are the parts used. For most of the fittings and adapters and hoses, I'll quote DHH or Surplus center prices, allthough I didnt need to order any from them. I had most of what I needed already, and what I didnt have, I...
Not actually my equipment, but a good friends. He just moved and needed to clear out his shop. I'll probably have these for a few years, if not forever.
I have never even seriously looked into buying a mill or lathe, because I have always had access through work. Anything I need done...
After beating my head against the wall for the past week, trying to decide how to do the hydraulics. Stackable valve? monoblock, single valve + selectors, etc etc, I have finally ordered parts this morning.
There is literally a ton of different ways to skin this cat, so my decisions was based...
Pics today of mowing with the new-to-me Woods DS96. Its a nice cutter for sure.
And these next pics are of two different lots that I do 3 times a year. Lucky if I can stay on the seat much over 4-5 MPH. One is 3 acres the other 2 acres. Jobs like these make me wish for a 10' cutter.
Started the research today. Still not in a hurry as I don't have any uses at the moment.
Dang stuff is expensive. Haven't really found a "kit" that has all that is needed. Rather a valve (l8304 IIRC) and then a handle kit. Seems about $800-$1000 just for 1 stinking remote.
Got me thinking. A...
I know lots of members here are in the landscaping biz, so what is the absolute best method to smooth a lawn to perfection.

Alot of you know I have been looking for an 8 or 10 foot cutter.
Not much out there in my area used. But a few hrs away, there is a BH 268. Can't seem to find much info online as to weather they are a good cutter.
Seems to be made more like the sq84 multi-spindle with only 2 gearboxes. Where...
Wondering if anyone knew any of the specs on these cutters that seem to be lacking. Specifically looking at blade tip speed and overlap?
Looking for specs on the 8' and 10' cutters. Found some references in some old threads that Kodiak and titan were one in the same? Not sure if that is still...
Got to really test her out today. Havent done much other than pilfer around the house with it since I got it. Had a 6 acre mowing job to do today Real thick grass. Was a retired hay field. So I figured I'd offer up my thoughts.
First two things I need to do are 1.....I need a steering wheel...
Need a little help and figured I'd see what you guys think.
Working on a 2009 Nissan sentra 2.0.
Symptoms were it would barley run, and white smoke with strong coolant smell, low coolant (so it's burning it).
Was 100% sure it was the head/gasket. So didn't diagnose any further.
Tore off...
In the market for a new cutter to match my new mx5100.
Don't need a super heavy cutter. Still have the bushhog 306 for the nasty clearing jobs. But it's 10,200 blade speed just sucks for pasture clipping. I don't foresee ever needing more than 1" capacity. And they all seem to have at least...
No longer am I a L3400 owner.
Got me a MX5100 HST now. Sold the 3400 to dad.
Finally got the size tractor I have been needing for a few years. Its a 2011 model w/350hrs. Cant wait to really get out and use it now.
Heres the money shots (for proof that "it" happened)
Benn looking for a smaller trailer, browsing Craigslist, and seen a 26' gn trailer that has a single dually axle.
Anyone ever see one like that? I never have. Looks like a PITA to get load balanced right.
It almost looks like a typical 24k trailer with the front axle removed, but the gn hitch...
Was there an update or something in the last few days or is it my phone browser that updated and causing me fits.
Haven't checked the PC in awhile.
Current issues:
When I go to my bookmark, which is my homepage, I now have to log in everytime. Even after checking the remember me box several...
Hope someone reads this that is intimately knowledgeable of the old ford hydraulics. Attached is a picture of the rear hydraulic setup I will reference through out this post.
the 3-spool valve on the right in the diagram #64, controls the boom, dipper, and bucket, with the PB feeding the FEL...
Wondering if anyone knows off the top of their heads what thread heater elements are.
Looking to get a thermometer to put in place of the upper element in my buffer tank for my 2-tank geothermal DHW heating setup.
Going to Menards this afternoon to get the pex and fittings to plumb it and...
Got either some envasive weeds or some volunteers.
Only thing I had out last year was cucumbers, zuchinni, watermelon, potatoes, and tomatoes.
Don't look like tomatoes, don't smell like cucumber, don't really look like anything I had out last year. Are they just a weed?
Decks # 6 and 7 are under my belt.
New front and rear deck on my house. Old ones were original to the house in 1988 and never stained. Not in savable shape.
So I tore them off last weekend and ordered material, which showed up friday.
Friday I got the post holes dug and ~6" of concrete...
Google didn't help. Maybe I didn't ask the right question.:mur:
Question is kinds two fold. Currently, I carry the insurance. It's what they call a HDHP (high deductible helth plan). Which are the only ones qualified for a HSA.
Well, the HSA money rolls over. And my employer puts in $2k per...
Got the geothermal unit finally yesterday. Got things plumbed up and getting wiring now. Got some questions regarding heating DHW with the desuperheater.
I was thinking this unit hand an internal pump and temp sensor to know when to circulate the DHW through the unit to heat it. Found out it...
Doing a service (fluids and filters) on a neighbors 2320 HST.
The tach I think works right although there is an issue with the hour meter, as she she says it only registers about an hour every 10 of use. Deere wants to replace the cluster.
Tractor only shows 500 hrs and has mowed 5 acres...
Just got back from NAPA paying way too much for a hydraulic hose.
3/4" R16 hose 55" long........................$11.99/ft.............$55
Two 3/4 hose x 7/8 female JIC fittings....$26ea.................$52
Crimp fee..............................................$7ea................$14

Had to pull a semi out with the backhoe last Monday. Delivering some of my geothermal stuff.
Pics don't do it a ton of Justice, but the front was burried about a foot, and the slope of the ditch....the one side of the axle almost had daylight under it and would just freewheel. Maybe next time...
Parts are starting to role in for my DIY geothermal. If weather holds, will break ground within the next week to get all the loops done.
But between the geo unit, flow center, manifolds, secondary water heater tank, I am interesting in seeing how others have things laid out in their basements...
Can anyone place a model number on this hog.
Seller lists it as a 8' cutter. 99.99% sure its bushhog brand. Build design and style and gearboxes look very similar to my 306. So I am fairly certain it is of the same era as the 305/306/307 series cutters, just an 8' twin. Want to put a model...
Been doing tons of reading on geothermal as I will likely be installing one this spring. Have a few questions and want to see what some of you have done.
Main thing is DWH and the best way to get the most out of the system. Are you guys running a single tank, two tanks, something else...
Anyone ever heard of this? Only vague reference I can find online says "NASA has reported some success with 99%/1% mix on very clean plate"
The MFG I work for is a production weld shop welding cylinders. Most of the cylinders are thin gauge steel and done on mp456 machines, pulse, and 045 wire...
I am not doing a very good job of picking vendors or something anymore. Just had an ordeal with a company who I will never do business with again. Heres the saga:
Last Friday 2-12 the DLP bulb went out in my TV. I knew it was about time as it was starting to get dim, and its been 4 years since...
Bought one of the $40 ones and it cracked. No luck returning it and the thread I posted about that whole story got deleted.
Anyway, I decided to make one from solid steel instead of the cast.
Who makes the best ones if you are actually using using them like impacts.
Have tried many and broke many. Dewalt, kobalt, ryobi, masterforce, etc all impact grade.
So, does anyone make an indestructible set?
Anyone got crank key dimensions for the 233 diesel crank?
Long story but mine is broke and a new one is very pricey from CNH. Don't have crank in my possession and won't til Monday. By then I'll be off work til Thursday with no mill access and was wanting to get the rebuild underway.
And I...
Anyone got any good places with a wide assortment of good throttle/choke cables?
Want to replace the OEM one on my ford 5500 backhoe. Seized up years ago and previous owner just actuated the lever by hand. I installed an old cable I had on the shelf, one of the push pull types and mounted it...
Anyone else get upset with the shipping charges some places charge for parts?
I'm not gonna mention names because this place is a sponser here, but have every intention of calling Monday when they are open and express my feelings.
I ordered the parts over the phone, got prices on what they were...
Anyone got any good links or suggestions for good battery cable ends.
I am not really fond of the cheap lead replacement type that have the little metal strap. The cable never seems to hold tight in them, and after one or two uses, its seems impossible and almost pointless to try to tighten it...
Getting ready for a overhaul. Actually its in my 5500 backhoe. 256CI I believe.
Not ready to order parts just yet, as I need to get the crank out and ground to know what size bearings I will need. But was looking at some kits, and it seems they have std, .010, up to 0.030 for the pistons/rings...
Got a brand joystick valve, having the same issues GPinthemitten had in this thread http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/hydraulics/344932-loader-valve-curl-function-diagnosis-9.html
Got this valve to install on dads IH444 and 2000 loader. It seams either the directions are just plain wrong or...
No do in this hunt but I thought I would see what TBN members know.
Guy I know traded in his truck for a newer one. 22k trade in for a 38k truck. Not that that matters.
Deal done, all papers signed, he is driving the new truck.
A few days after the deal is done, dealership notices there is no...
Was going through some of the pics on my phone and came across these and I realized I dont think I ever posted them.
This was about 2 months or so ago on dads Ford 4500. Was digging out trees when this happened. Made a quickie repair to get back to work. HAd to use chain and binders to pull it...
though I'd post some pictures of the 37' bridge crane that I have been working on.
I got a bunch of beams for a really good price. The main beam is W18x60 and I got 2 25' sections. I need the beam to be 38' long, so....cut 13' off one beam and weld to the 25' section of the other.
Dad bought an IH 444 early model. 1968 I believe.
He also got a IH 2000 loader, but the loader was installed on a different tractor and already removed from it.
We know we will probably have to fab our own brackets. Just looking for how the factory brackets looked, where they were installed...
Went to clean the fuel filter today. It was replaced about 6 months ago. The bottom metal cap was laying at the bottom of the bowl, so basically I wasn't filtering anything. Who knows how long it's been like that too.
I know it prolly ain't an expensive part, and I plan on calling when I get...
As the title states.
The typical 7-way trailer end plugs I seem to have to replace every 2-3 years. The plastic usually cracks, around that tiny flat head screw that holds the end on. Then when trying to unplug, you are actually pulling the face of the connector out by the wires.
Dont like...
My sight glass finally bit the dust and cracked.
Noticed a wet spot on the concrete about 4" diameter and it was pretty wet around the glass. Sure enough it was cracked.
So I guess time to order one. I was hoping I dodged the bullet on this common issue since the tractor is 9 years and 900hrs...
Dad is looking at getting something slightly more modern than his 8n. Something that will make a good bushhog tractor.
General requirements:
Power steering
Live hydraulics
live or independent PTO
40ish HP
Lighter weight smaller platform lower COG. IE: Not a rowcrop with 38" rears and heavy...
Got alot of welding to do tomorrow. All prices are cut and prepped. Not sure how effective it will be ripping roots outbut its intended to be a multi-purpose attachment to clean up debris from fencerow removal. Uprooting trees with the BH leaves alot of trash behind. Also will be used to bust up...
Anyone but me think that craigslist should have a reply button, such that the reply is visible to any who view the ad, kinda like a forum so to speak?
I see a lot of posts, (specifically when searching for something using a keyword or what not) where someone has replied to the thread. Usually...
Any idea where to get one?
Working on a JD number 9 sickle mower that is missing the PTO shaft. The input to the mower gearbox is 1.250" OD and 19 splines. No thru-hole but but has the radius groove for like a quick attach style.
Every big MFG that I have looked at their parts lists and PDF's...
Trying to plan out and decide how I want to build my bridge crane in the shop.
I cannot afford a new beam big enough for the 38' span. So will wait til the right one comes along on craigslist or whatever. There are some good ones on there now so I though I'd run some ideas by the board.
My...
Wanted to wait til I was done (mostly done) to post pictures of my shop build this summer. Still have some minor things left to do on the back side. The garage is 40x72, but only 40x40 is finished, concreted, insulated, etc. The back 32x40' is cold storage for equipment. Still need to do the...
Been googling for awhile now and not coming up with a simple solution to my dilemma.
At my house I have 2 Linear openers. They are 318mhz and came with 3-button remotes.
My goal was to have the middle button do the door at the shop. But a conventional style linear opener for a 12' high door is...
Anyone else watched some episodes.
I'll admit I know little about forging or knifemaking, so someone correct me if I am wrong...
It just seems the whole show is amateur. I think I have seen 3 or 4 episodes , so that's 12 or more "knifemakers" ond it seems pretty darn rare to see one that don't...
Areas around the barn construction were a mess since this was a very wet spring. IT was never very smooth to begin with, with dips and low spots and what not. So about a month and a half ago I disc'd everything real good with the plan to run the cultipacker over it. Then we got about a month of...
Anybody got the diameter needed to fit inside the hole to wind the springs up. I am set to pick up my doors Saturday and was wanting to get a set of bars made. Just need to know the diameter to turn the ends down to. My doors in the other garage are extension springs, so no help there.
Getting a little frustrated. My mower is down. Kohler 25hp crapped out the plastic fan and debris guard. Broken bolts, messed up aluminum spacers etc. Was late on a Saturday when I got it apart to figure what I needed.
So to the web to find parts. Found a place in Oregon that happened to have...
Going to be wiring my shop soon and am planning things out. We have no code or inspections to follow here but want to do it right.
Everything is going to be in conduit. But I want to minimize how much of it I use. So my first question
As I understand it, I can run 9 current carrying...
I like the prices menards has when the choose to run something on sale. But hate not knowing when the next sale is gonna be. And their sale prices are not always the same.
Example, when I was getting quotes on material for my building, 39' rolls of 23" R19 insulation were ~$21-22 bucks on sale...
Usually about anything I am working on, parts are always more expensive from the MFG than elsewhere online. But I typically always call the MFG just to gain more knowledge and information.
The particular thing I was working on today was one of my toilets. Has one of them sloan flushmaster...
Got my delivery of lumber yesterday and wanted to get started building today. I think thats going on hold now.
Here are some pictures of the 2x6's I got. Just terrible quality.
Out of about 200 2x6's I got, I bet I'd be lucky to find 20 that didnt have a rounded or bark edge. And probably...
Forgot to measure before I left for work. So if someone can help that would be great.
I need the diameter and length of the pin for the loader arm stands.
I bent mine a few years ago when the cotter key fell out and I didn't catch it and it bent backing up and turning. I hammered the arm back...
think I am gonna make one to install cabling and invisible dog fence. Plan to start this evening and will post pictures, but I have this idea in my head and though I would ask opinions and thoughts if there is anything to improve. Cant really draw out what I want very well so I will describe and...
I poured the floor in the new garage this weekend, and overall it ain't bad. But a number of things didn't go as planned.
The rain showed up about 2 hours early. Concrete was placed and set just ready to be troweled, and it rained. If rain held off as forecast it would have been done and...
Wanted to get the mortar in the garage because its gonna rain before I get to lay any more block. Pallet had 14 bags @ 75# each + pallet. So about 1100# approx 2' beyond the cutting edge. Took ~2350 psi to make the lift. Probably could have gotten a few more bags on, but I had to jockey out of...
This is at the 3-unit appts I own. One of the units has an issue with the HP. Prior to my ownership another company was out there about two years ago and replaced the compressor. I have had my guy out there and the new issue seems to be something not allowing refrigerant to get to the...
Doing some tiling today. Got buried. From the pictures you can see why we are running a tile.
She couldnt walk herself out of this one. Using the hoe and loader to lift, we filled the ruts with some firewood and used the kubota to pull.
Kinda a puzzling question that I though maybe someone would have more insight on than me.
Everywhere I have worked so far, once you have two or more weeks vacation you can take time off 1-day at a time. But must use at least 1 week all in a row.
Where I am now, I get 80hrs vacation, and 24hrs...
Just wondering how many of you guys buy used tires for your vehicles.
Sometimes I do, sometimes I dont. Just depends on if I can find a deal on decent tires.
Got a set for my wifes car, 205/60/16's. Looks as though they have been used less than 10k miles. $100 for all 4.
But I wont pay 1/2...
Well I couldnt find anywhere where it said we arent allow to post pictures of firearms, so if it isnt allowed feel free to delete.
I dont know of any good reputable website that dont cost money to determine a value of firearms. gunbroker is hit and miss. And with guns, sometimes the smallest...
I have a couple of revolvers I was wanting to see what everyone thought they were worth. I know there are quite a few knowledgeable members and collectors on here and talk guns quite a bit, but I dont ever recall seeing anyone posting pictures of firearms. Is that allowed? I would like to post...
I maybe changing the design of the building I am planning for this spring. Looking for some feedback.
I am considering doing a 6 row block foundation instead of post-frame. I like the idea of having a few rows of block inside the building around the base. Seems it would be alot better for...
Well, the snowstorm shifted, so Columbus didnt get anything (where I plow at), but just a few counties north where I live, we go about 3-4" of good heavy stuff. Perfect for making a snowman with the kids.
Thought I'd share some pics of a ripper I threw together a few days ago.
Was needing something to start removing trees from around the pond and clearing a fence row. I only had a 2' and 3' bucket and those make a big mess trying to remove 6"-12" trees.
IT was just made with scraps. So nothing...
Just some pics of the brunco 120 wood-stove I installed. Had to take the pics for the insurance company so I figured I'd post them also.
Probably only burn it for a year then it will be back-up only once I get geo-thermal installed.
Basebard heat is $$$$. My daily KwH usage was 115-120. Or...
Anyone have any experience with their system?
If I understand it correctly, a tech comes out, basically surveys the property, programs the collars, and that's it. No wires, and no circular boundaries like wireless devices.
Wondering if anyone has this, and what it cost. And if anyone other...
Had a very frustrating ordeal this past week with ebay-paypal-ups-zorotools...
Background: every time in the past I have ordered off eBay, there were several steps to walk through and confirm things like address. Cause I have often ordered parts for other people and had shipped to their place...
Considering putting in a geo system in the house I just purchased. Gotta do something. Only has electric baseboard heat and no AC.
So I called some contractors for some quotes. One came out today. Looking about $9k for air-air or about 18k for geo.
Both include ductwork which the house has...
On my never ending quest for more info about building my upcoming pole barn.
One of my concerns is the trusses. The only company that has gotten back to me so far on 8' OC trusses for 40' span is quoting 2x6 lumber for both top and bottom cords. They are quoting 2400-2.0e msr lumber though...
I think I forewarned everyone that I would be asking lots of questions about my upcoming bard build. This is just another...
I know we touched on this topic in one of the other threads, but would like to focus on JUST the header.
The building is going to be a 40x72 with 16' doors on...
Seems we have several electrical buffs on the forum. So this is kinda a challenge to see who can figure this out. One of the "to-do's" on my list after the inspection (before I can close on selling), Was the bathroom GFI. The inspector said it didnt trip when he used his 5mA tester. So....
I...
I will probably wear everyone out over the next months designing (in my head) me polebarn. This thread will talk about posts, and how everyone sets them, and different methods of backfill and uplift prevention.
I have done some researching on the best methods, and just end with more questions...
Hopefully some of you electricians that are well versed in code and all can help me out.
In the midst of selling my home and under contract. Home inspection was done, then I get the request for remedy sheet.
One of the things listed was "overfused condition".
Not sure what this meant. So no...
I am in the design phases of my next polebarn that I will likely start in the spring. Called a few places for quotes, and still waiting to hear back from some, bit so far it looks like I will be doing it myself to save some money. I was having them quote just a 40x64 shell, with one gable end...
Starting to move stuff out of the garage and house and decided it was worth the time to make up some pallet forks.
They work very well indeed. Thought I would share
Looking for some answers to a few questions from those of you who have ever bought or sold propery via Land contract.
Background: I have to opportunity to buy a piece of property that I want. Direct from owners and no realtors involved. But not wanting/unable to borrow money, and planning on...
Bear with me, this will probably be a longer post than I intend.
The purpose of this exercise was to find the CG of my tractor in various configurations. So I broke out one of my college books on how to find the CG by raising one side up a given distance and seeing how much weight was...
I am sure this will be frowned upon, due to the increased risk of bending axles and what not. But I am not here to has that out. I an well aware of the risks.
They are each 1-1/2". So makes measuring across the back wheels a total of 3" wider.
Gonna also do some measuring and weighing today...
In preparation of the up coming task of changing the dreaded ball joints on my 3rd gen Dodge 3500, I made a home made press. Not the typical Cee style, rather totally boxed in.
Made 2 actually. The larger one is 1" x 2" bar steel, with the threaded portion being 1-1/2" x 2-1/2". Uses 1"-8...
Went to our local county fair last night. Usually no shortage of dealer display tractors there. I actually enjoy going cause its rare that you get a chance to look at model X from brand Y and get to walk 10 steps and see Model A from brand B...
But this year was a disappointment. Mahindra...
Just finished a bushhogging job. Had some pretty steep hills. Some areas pushing 45% grade. And most of the hill was at least 33+%. (or 18 degrees on the meter).
Here are some pics.
Not sure what just happened to me today. Started the tractor up to move a few rounds of firewood out of the way. After bout 2 minutes of running (long enough to pull out of garage and get to rounds and hop off the seat to load), the engine started puffing some blue smoke (probably oil), and...
Just thought I would share some pics of a KK 60" cutter I just finished up.
Had to get a new stump jumper and blades. And had to re-make where the gearbox bolts on cause it was all cracked. Then a coat of paint.
Here is what I started with:
Geting ready to undertake another bushhog restore project. But just wondering what HP rating the gearbox is if anyone knows.
ITs a 5' cutter. Here are some pics
The gearbox details:
Ratio: 1.5:1
Input shaft: 1-3/8" smooth
Output: 1.550" 12-spline
Output threads: 1-14
Bolt circle: 4-bolts...
Looking for some suggestions as to what others have or have seen. Most all ponds I have seen in my area don't really have an overflow so to speak, but also don't have a lot of fill water coming in either.
Currently, my pond has a 12",culvert with 2 8" culverts for an overflow. I did this cause...
A friend has a 2006 or 2007 Kubota ZD28 w/72" deck for sale. 1100 hrs. Good shape and well cared for. Asking $5k.
I looked over tractor house. And $5k seems to be the low end. For older and more hours. There are really no good comparibles, but it seems 7k seems to be a good average for asking...
Gonna try to keep this as short as possible, but just doing some thinking out loud and looking for some opinions and feedback.
For starters, I have about 550hrs, and the fronts are maybe 40-50%. The rears are closer to 70% but just this past week I was on a mowing job (well more like brush...
Trying to make a jump into investing in a rental property. Under contract on a nice 3-unit property. I am waiting on a call back tomorrow from insurance agent for an estimate...
But those of you that do have rentals, how much does insurance run you vs a homeowners policy?
I would think...
