EV owners of today and tomorrow

The point is that a Model Y has manual door releases for the front doors, but not in the back seat. The back seat has a complicated mechanism to access the manual door release. https://www.tesla.com/ownersmanual/modely/en_us/GUID-AAD769C7-88A3-4695-987E-0E00025F64E0.html And notice what Tesla...

You want one of these sharpeners: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0047A0RUC?th=1 with the 5/32 file. It very quickly leave the chain like new. And these things are great with a new chain.

What is the function of the spring inside a spark plug

Here is a diagram that shows a spring in a spark plug: https://prostreetonline.wordpress.com/2013/08/31/faq-spark-plugs-101/ Most plugs don't have a spring like that, but notice that the spring is not the resister. That page doesn't say why it is there, but my assumption(*) is that it helps...

    Loaded tires filled with....antifreeze?

Wow. 3 pages and I didn't see the real answer. Why do people use saturated salt water in tires? It is cheap, it doesn't freeze, and it is 20% heavier than water/antifreeze/beets. The whole point here is ballast; the saltwater approach does that job better because it is heavy. But like...

Sad and Tragic Recovery Accident in AZ.

The video that started this thread was actually very good. The last point in the video was addressing why using the hitch pin in this fashion is a bad idea. The pins are designed for very high shear strength, but you are using it for bending strength and it will fail. Yes, this is safer than the...

150 years worth of Gopher mounds

Around here this is a case where you hire a local farmer to prep the field for planting. He has much bigger equipment and the proper stuff. As was mentioned this takes multiple passes with different implements. The scaled-down versions of those implements are expensive and most people are...

    FELs and digging

That might be true. My digging picture was with the heavy-duty bucket with the optional 3/4" bolt-on cutting edge. No teeth, but I am not bending that thing.

    FELs and digging

In the middle of digging a grave for a dead cow. Seems to be a theme here. Need to maintain a good slope to drive out with dirt and use the box teeth to score the next layer since this is hard clay. And I think having a top-and-tilt helps because I can keep the hole level.

They really don't look the same size and the std rippers. From the pictures, they look skinner and deeper. A real shame too because I have an EA Severe Xtreme box and I am really jealous of the new rippers. Especially the fast adjustment.

THIS is the definition of stuck!!!

Here is my worse experience with something big getting stuck: https://goo.gl/photos/sYxv51o5xiWhvjaH9 I sunk a 13 ton bus to its frame in loose gravel. I had an old telephone pole I used to slide under the frame behind the rear tires so for when the air leaks out. This time the bus didn't rise...

Parking brake won't release on old bus RV

Yeah, the thing has manual slack adjusters and it appears I need to adjust those and grease some more. At some point, I will send some pictures from underneath. The setup may be very simple, but it is darn near inaccessible. Thanks for the pointers.

Parking brake won't release on old bus RV

Yes, I could arrange an engine coolant heater if I want. That is why I didn't worry too much about getting rid of that monster diesel-fired heater. FYI this was the day I finally got tried on that monster and all its extra piping: And yes ether works if needed so I could probably get it...

Parking brake won't release on old bus RV

Thanks. We enjoy it. Even with the size, I can maneuver into camping spots that the big RVs could never manage. That is a transit bus frame so it has the front tire back a ways and has a really tight turning radius. You just need to be careful about soft spots.

Parking brake won't release on old bus RV

Yeah sorry. In this case, these are old Rockwell Coach brakes. There isn't a dust cover and you can directly see the shoes from under the bus. Unfortunately, they are mostly blocked by this train-like frame that holds the rear differential and the 4 air shocks that hold the coach itself. When...

Yes, they are all greased and once the shoe was unstuck from the drum the brakes operated smoothly. But yes it is probably time for me to go crawl around under that thing and grease everything again. I am not sure you are really picturing these things. ;-) The drum is 16.5in diameter and the...

In the midwest, most of the sugar you buy is actually made from beets and not sugarcane so you would be using the same stuff.

    Problem sharpening a new chain

That orange Stihl file guide that was posted on the Amazon link is really nice. In addition to sharpening the teeth, it keeps the rakers at the right level so the chain continues to cut nicely. That file is crazy expensive, but I remember it being $35 not $50 so look around. I also stopped...

    Bad Boy Land Plane

Does anyone see the length of the sides on that bad boy? It looks on the short side to me. You need that length to fill in dips. Those long sides are part of the reason a land plane is easier to get a better results than a box blade.

How can I be sure the check will be good?

"hold the check until it clears" doesn't work the way you think. This is a common scam method. A check will appear in the balance of your bank account before it has ever been validated. I have received lots bad checks and only avoided being taking by paranoia. Just say no. Have them write a...

Min tractor size for repairing long gravel driveway with potholes?

I just want to say when you are looking at gravel driveway maintenance you might want to consider a land leveler (aka grading scraper) in addition to a box blade. It is way easier to use and gets outstanding results. The relatively short blades on the scraper collect material quickly and...

Tractors and wood! Show your pics

Kubota loader becomes anemic when hot

So I have a 2015 Kubota MX5100HST that has about 100 hours of light use. Lately, I have been doing some digging and I find the front hydraulics lose power and moves very slowly after it has been working hard for 30 minutes. I assume that is when the fluids are all hot. First I checked the...

Rear Blade  Homemade gauge wheel for rear blade. Will this work?

I bought a used Land Pride rear lade off Craigslist for $200. The frame is kinda bent up but the blade is straight and the TNT can adjust for the warped mount. But for driveway maintenance I understand a gauge wheel makes it much easier to get a smooth contour. Land Pride's gauge wheels are...

    Selling Ford 2000: what price?

OK I am planning on selling my '68 Ford 2000 tractor, but I don't know what kind of price to ask for it. This is one of the 3 cyl gas models with a 4-speed manual transmission. The is the newer 2000 that is quite a bit bigger/stronger than the older 4-cyl 2000. As the pictures show it is...

Buying Advice advice needed mx5100 vs m7040 to replace my '68 Ford 2000

Thanks TripleR. That does remind me of another idea I had for a new tractor that favors the 5100. We store small hay bales in the barn: And piling that hay be hand is a real chore. I have considered the idea of stacking the hay in 4' cubes on pallets and then using pallet forks to carry these...

Buying Advice  advice needed mx5100 vs m7040 to replace my '68 Ford 2000
