A skid steer with a stump bucket would beat the heck out of the tractor backhoe. A large frame CTL with a stump bucket actually works fairly well it’s just not what I would buy to do the work.

Not true. I paid a notable amount less for my new KX040 than I did my 75-3. I wouldn’t buy a 40 for taking down 20” trees either. It would work especially for poplar trees but a 20-30k pound machine is more suited for that work.

An excavator is better suited for taking out trees. A skid steer with a stump bucket will work as long as it’s dry enough to get traction. If you proceed with that plan the bigger the better. But an excavator is by far the best option.

I think a track CTL will compact material better than you give it credit for. If you put it down in 4-6” lifts and track it down with the right moisture you can make a tight pad. I’ve done pads that way that a loaded dump truck barely leaves a mark on.

I rented an auger for the mini skid steer to plant some trees. It worked so good that I called the rental company and told them I wanted to keep it forever. For $2000 for the auger and a 3 bit set they actually agreed to my request.

They had already tore the side skirting off it was buried so deep before Heavy D started with it. I’m not sure that getting timbers under it had any chance of happening. And Heavy D is selling entertainment not recovery. I bet a new back hatch was still cheaper than recovery.

To be fair he usually does those recoveries for free and I’m not sure how much chance there there ever was of getting that out without some damage. RVs weren’t designed to be stuck that severely from any point of view.

The skid steer weighs 2 if not 3 times what the 25 hp tractor does. The hydraulic drive cutter isn’t as efficient as a shaft either. I doubt you have as much HP to the cutter as the 25 hp tractor has.

Most of my mowing experience is with a 75. It works acceptably good but it bogs a lot. I briefly mowed with my 88 hp Komatsu and it kept it up better. I have a SVL90 but I’ve never put the mower on it. I don’t think you’d be happy with the result going to a skid steer half the size.

High flow is really only useful if you buy a high flow mower and regular flow mowers work acceptably well. I’d be more concerned with the whole brush mowing plan. The Kubota 75s are at the bottom end of the acceptable HP for brush mowing IMO and the Deere 312 is considerably smaller.

I assume the OP isn’t using the 2” line at capacity and reduced it to a 3/4” tap at the end. That would make the velocity in the 2” line fairly slow and drastically lower the water hammer effect.

You still need to be able to swing it open though. The big dump trucks are tall enough that you can dump debris under the tailgate. The dump trailer tailgate is so short that pretty much anything gets stuck if you try dumping under it.

The GVW is the important number. If the truck GVW and the trailer GVW add together to make 26001 pounds then you likely need a CDL. And a 1 ton dually may get you into trouble with a 14k trailer. Single wheel 1 tons are usually fine.

Only a few states go by the 10k trailer deal. In most states you can pull a 14k trailer with the F-250 GVW at 10,000 pounds which makes a 24k combo which is legal.

A KX-040 will out dig a M62 and you can trailer it with the same hauling requirements as the M62.

I use the swing boom on mine more to align the dig line than anything. If you’re trying to dig in a precise line instead of shifting the tracks a couple inches you can move the swing boom which effectively moves it to the side.

The only time I’ve ever had pex leak was when I tried cutting the tube off to re use the fittings and nicked the fitting a little bit. The same thing can happen to the brass ones if they get throw in a bucket without the protective shipping band. I’m mostly talking about the expansion fittings...

Type A can be expanded which maintains the inside diameter of the tube. A can also be crimped. B is crimp only. I have no idea what the other grades are for.

You shouldn’t have to use many fittings anyway. It shouldn’t take over 2-3 per branch. And faucets have flow restrictions anyway that’s far lower than the pipe capacity. Maybe for a select few applications it might be a problem but for regular house plumbing it’s a non issue.

I think there’s a good reason why wheeled excavators are typically reserved for working on paved surfaces. Wheel’s excavators have much smaller wheels than other equipment in the same weight class would have. I think constantly getting stuck will be a real problem.

When you start looking at a backhoe with those features you’ve lost the cost advantage and definitely exceeded the op’s budget. You could have a nice excavator with a hydraulic thumb for the same money.

A 305 will dig stumps but it’s going to be slow going for stumps that size. A 305 is a touch bigger than my 40 but I’d definitely use my 120 for that job.

Trying to fix a decrepit man lift is a disaster. The whole thing is nothing but a mess of hoses and wires. You need one that’s pretty new and that puts the price beyond what’s sensible. Just renting one is the best option unless you’re making repairs once a month.

We got a log truck stuck on my job earlier in the week. I was impressed how easily my D3 dozer made the job look. There’s no way my rubber track skid steer would have done the job. We had the log truck suck worse the day before and the D3 didn’t struggle that time either.

I don’t have much experience auguring holes but I think it’s better to go for the desired hole the first time. I think the bigger auger would corkscrew itself into the smaller hole without much resistance to slow it down.

That’s just completely wrong. An 18” hole is pretty easy work and people do it with mini skid augers every day. I doubt you could even find a 18” auger and gear box rated for 120 hp.

My dad’s F-550 with a 12ft bed and coil springs will out turn my old model ones with leaf springs. My Volvo truck will significantly out turn all 3 of them. I had a tandem axle international before the Volvo and it would still turn sharper than the leaf spring fords.

This pvc held up quite well for the test but it was also brand new. It would have shattered much easier as it gets older.

Pex won’t blow into splinters like pvc. It’s not that much different from the poly tube frequently used in truck airlines. I’d have no problem using pex for shop air supply just keep in mind it’s not intended for UV exposure.

Any track loader is going to have a DPF unless you buy an old one. The machines over 75hp still have the DPF in addition to requiring DEF fluid. In my opinion the DEF fluid is considerably more unreliable than just the DPF especially on machines that sit more than they work.

A pneumatic tire forklift is the only real option that has the lift capacity and fits the budget.

Because nothing else does the work they do. Sure a telhandler lifts pallets better but it can’t do the magnitude of other work a skid steer does.

Even $3,000 is a lot to move a 5 unless it’s going 100 miles in the middle of nowhere.

100 yards is doable on a tractor but an easy job for a CTL. It might be worth renting another one for a day. A larger CTL would move 1 yard per scoop but even on the conservative side that’s 200 scoops.

Both of my Deere backhoes would readily start in the cold without block heaters. Cranking speed is importance though. If they aren’t turning fast I’d start troubleshooting there. Since it turns fine in warm the starter mad cables are probably fine. My guess is the battery is on its way out.

Lowes rents a drain inspection camera and they also rent drain augers. You do need a 3” pipe to fit the drain camera.

Most trucks even old ones have a plug under the dash to plug a brake control into. I put one on my 2004 ford last weekend and the install took like 5 minutes.

How deep is the pallet? If it’s like a standard pallet depth it would probably be fine. If it’s a deep pallet like as wide as the trailer deck I seriously doubt it lifts it.

I for one think the insurance company has done you pretty fair. Maybe not the deal you wanted but their terms would reasonable. I’d start with finding a better mechanic to rebuild the engine. You should be able to order parts and repair the engine for far less than $20,000.

It would cost more to put heads on it than I paid for the truck. I’ll probably cut my losses and sell it to someone for a Cummins swap at that point. It pulls harder than my 7.3 and cold starts better than my 7.3 not that either of those are hard bars to top.
