It's very hard when dry, good luck driving a screw into it... lol

I mill it, sticker it, and put weight on the pile, it dries just fine that way...

How do you dry boards outside, must take lots of weight...... I like to dry a few boards upstairs in the garage but need a way of holding them down, might try ratchet straps next time. Usually I stack boards on shelf brackets 16"-24" and 25" and hope they stay flat like pine does.

I mill mine, sticker it, then use cheap ratchet straps from Harbor Freight to bind the pile. As it shrinks I can crank a little more on the ratchet to keep it tight.

But they're not under cover how do you keep the snow off..............

I sticker the lumber and cover with tin...

Some species like this cherry, didn't take any weight and it all came out really nice,

I really prefer air dried lumber.

Is there another way to dry lumber.......... Come to think of it cherry logs is the only wood in ME I haven't sawed yet unless apple is considered as lumber.....

Is that an airless kiln as in no air anywhere as in a decompression chamber as in making pressure treated lumbah........
No, as in Nyles kilns,
Kiln Drying Systems | Nyle Systems | Brewer, Maine for making furniture grade lumber.
If you look hard enough you may find some cherry to saw, but nothing like what they have to the west of us. The first time that I worked in New York I marked wood in a nice cherry stand... it was on a bluff and the forester told me to see if I could find a way onto it. I did, and for two days was painting smiley faces on the trees. I don't know what the woodcutters thought... :D

During/After the war a local subdivision builder found the only way he could build was to vertically integrate...

He purchased timberland in Northern CA, set up a Mill, bought over the road trucks and delivered flatbeds of lumber loaded to match the homes he was building...

It was quite a story of being resourceful...

Kind of a Henry Ford model on a minute scale...

Yes... there are tractors in the presentation... and about at 9 minutes wood... lots of wood.

I was assigned as the VIP escort for Mrs. Bohannon when the village marked 75 year anniversary... amazing what can be done with willingness and planning...
