New to diesel tractors and I would like to understand this

What is the significance of the amber section? the red?

Are these just to tell me that I'm going over the RPM needed to run the PTO at 540 RPM?

Green is optimum operating range, yellow is short time range and red is don't run it like that for to long......

I ask because my owners manual says that for the fist 50 hours I should run it at full throttle. Full throttle is into the red.... well, honestly I've never had it up to full throttle, tried it and got to the red before I decided it might be a bad idea.

Why would the owners manual tell me to run it at full throttle 100% of the time if I should not run it in the red when full throttle would put be well into that red zone?

Seriously confused.

Sounds crazy to me I have not run mine in the red zone at any time no reason to, for me anyway

Yeah they should reword it. It wont hurt you if your in the red and the temp guage is normal, diesels run better at higher RPM range. Basically they dont want you running it at lower rpm while breaking it in because thats where you can do more damage, def. dont want it stalling under load.

I am very bad at this because i keep the RPMs low, these babies like the higher side of the RPM range.

I try to stay out of the yellow and red zones, the green zone (or below) seems optimum.... Yeah my manual says full throttle to, BUT...

Another place in manual says my 1715 with HST operates best at 2400 RPM and above....

It could be the translation. "Full Throttle" and "Wide Open Throttle" are not the same thing.

On my GC1720, when I'm mowing with the MMM on uneven terrain or taller/thicker grass, sometimes the MMM can bog down the engine. I just engage the PTO at 2000 RPM and shove the throttle full forward (your throttle linkage doesn't have enough travel to truly redline/damage the 3-cyl diesel that's in there). It's just a graphic. If I want the RPMs to come down, I push harder on the HST go pedal and that reduces the engine RPM as necessary. This prevents having to constantly adjust throttle with the hand lever. And my MMM doesn't care about spinning faster either - no belt slip. Just try to avoid engaging the PTO at excessive RPMs; that is hard on things.

Thanks, I figured it was just my misunderstanding of what is meant. Like I said, I tried pushing it to full throttle when I was just sitting still just to see what it would do, got into the orange and it was a little scary, so I figured I wasn't reading it right. I'm just trying to run it the way the manual tells me to run it. Generally, once I'm going I try to keep it in the green, tractor seems to like it there. I haven't had an issue with it slowing down even on high grass. I can hear the engine work a little but it's never been enough to bring the RPM down that I've noticed.

And you generally won't - it's when you try to keep the speed up in RABBIT that it can bog. In turtle mode at max speed, that engine never bogs down.
