Had this typed out before the net shut off and lost it all let me try again.

I heard what can best be described as a marble or a gear just starting to mesh in rear of the tractor as I was removing the 3 point hitch. It didn稚 seem to matter whether the tractor was neutral or gear. Only when the clutch peddle was pushed did it stop. After doing some reading I知 thinking the clutch is out of adjustment on the tractor but I cannot check for several weeks. I did start thinking however, that for quite some time that while pushing the clutch in to shift from neutral to gear, that the selector wouldn稚 slide easily to gear most often. I would then just let the clutch back out, touch the hyderostat pedal and then push clutch back in, and slide selector easily to gear. No grinding ever took place etc. But I should of realized than to check the clutch adjustment. Assuming it is indeed the clutch adjustment, and is at the point of while running, sometimes is rattling slightly in rear of tractor and trying to slide selector to gear might need that little depression of the hydrostat peddle to allow me to slide easily to gear than. What are the odds there痴 enough clutch wear it would now need to be changed. Only 480 hours on it. I can only wait a pray until I can take a look at its adjustment in a few weeks time.

It is possible the noise is not your clutch at all. It could be the throwout bearing. Hopefully it's only an adjustment.

Yes it is possible. Anything at this point. But throw out bearing isn’t good either I assume. It still means splitting the tractor

I did not think hydrostatic transmissions had a clutch.... am I missing something here?

Some older HST tractors used to have a clutch. It was used mainly to engage/disengage PTO and I believe to start the engine as safety measure.

My 2015 Kubota does. I don't think I would want it without. As the poster above me points out, it's handy when engaging heavy loads like my mower or tiller

See that...learned something new... is the clutch on the left by the brakes? So, 2 different pedals.... Or is it on the right near HST pedals? 3 different pedals? I am trying to wrap my head around this....

On an HST with no engine clutch there's a PTO clutch. It can be operated by a hand lever or by an electric switch that triggers a solenoid operated hydraulic valve. My Branson has the switch. The engagement is fast but not sudden like dumping a clutch. The hydraulics slip the clutch just a bit. It seems to work well. My PTO chipper has a 24" diameter 200 lb flywheel and is geared up 2:1 and I can engage it with the engine at idle. And the PTO clutch can be replaced without splitting the tractor.

My old Kubota had the engine clutch. The pedal was on the left. The brake pedals were on the right, above the HST pedal.

Clutch pedal is on the left, brake is on the right above the treadle. Very similar to those on a geared tractor.
