Give Travis a call at EA, he will be happy to assist you in your selection of grapple. Tell him what you have and what you intend to do.

I have a 60" grapple from EA with a single lid.

I debated between the 60”, 66" and the 72”. The bucket on my tractor is a 66". At first I thought making it wider would allow me to pickup more and have it more stable. Then I was persuaded about the weight, so I went with the 60”.

After having it for a year and using it for everything (brush cleanup, storm cleanup, demolition of sheds and barns and a house, burning brush, moving heavy objects, pulling and pushing heavy objects, etc) the difference in width on the grapple I would think is negligible. Every "bite" I get can hang out the sides by multiple feet. Having it wider isn't going to get me more in my grapple. I'm pretty good at judging the center of my bites so having it be wider for stability isn't necessary.

The single vs dual lid. Man, this talked about more than anything. I'll tell you why I chose the single and an added benefit that I've noticed that you can't do with dual.

First, I figured that having one cylinder is better than two when it comes to maintenance. The other reason I looked at single was because of the higher psi it can apply to each bite. I thought that may come in handy. (In all honesty after using it, it probably doesn't matter).

Finally, the reason I wouldn't trade my single lid for a dual. It can get places a dual lid can't. When doing storm cleanup or demolition sometimes you get in a spot where your grapple is too wide. Maybe you need to grab something between two trees or sitting just inside a door. You can't stick your grapple in there... But you can tilt your grapple all the way down and use the single lid to get in between things to pull it out! I can't tell you the number of times I've had to do this. If I had a dual lid I would have to get out of the tractor and either pull the thing out or load it into the grapple myself.

I'm sure dual lids actually grip a wider area than the singles but so far I'm pleased with what this grapple can do.

Close spaced tines for smaller rocks is the one major failing mine has. Spacing is about 8 to 9 inches and wish it was smaller. EA has one that has closer spacing and still weighed less which is what I was looking at.
As usual with tools one grapple style does not do it all and its a good thing your looking into so much detail so as to get your moneys worth and best fit most of your needs.
Same here. I've been seriously considering adding some tines to close it up some - wouldn't add too much weight.

Your experience is the same as mine.

Good, honest, non biased feedback here in my opinion. OP, I am a bit south of you right down on the NY/PA border if you want to come try out my grapple. I ended up going with the EA 60" dual lid and went thru about the same exact process as madpuma13, just ended up slightly different in the end. After using mine, and giving thought to narrow/wider and single lid I can say that I have yet to find a use where a single lid wouldn't have been just as good if not better than the dual lids I have. Also I have never found a time where I would have wanted a wider grapple and more often than not have realized narrow to point, maybe 48", would have been just as good. The one thing I can say is the lighter weight is a positive in my opinion. I have a Kubota L4240, so decent lift capacity, and even the EA grapple is noticeable weight wise. With the grapple on I usually have either a 6' Gannon box blade or a logging winch on the 3pt and the tractor is noticeably more front heavy with the winch on vs. the heavier box blade.

It’s my only grapple I’ve owned and purchased it with the tractor so delivery and financing was more connected with the selection than anything else. I got the 5 ft model with one hydro. It’s a work horse and enjoyed having it. FD2CB8C8-10CC-437C-A3A5-391768BC1385.jpeg

I got a 60" dial lid Wicked from EA. I havent' felt the need for a wider or narrower grapple. My bucket is 67" and the tractor with rear wheel spacers is 70" at the rear tires. I have used the grapple for brush, logs and rounds. Dual lids are useful for brush (grabs at four points instead of two) but don't matter for logs. I have a hard time with rounds, I don't know what would work best there.

Interesting. My experience with a single lid grapple on logs is just the opposite: Unless the log is very uniform, one edge of the lid will clamp down on fat or lumpy end of the log, while the other end is still off the log, allowing it to swing out of the open end while maneuvering the tractor.
