We changed the engine oil and filter on our 5055e at 120 hours. The manual says we should also change the hydraulic filter, which I have(the Deere man sold me two items, one is an enclosed canister, the 2nd looks to be a paper-type filter which I cannot figure out where it goes). If we never have used the hydraulic lines, do we still need to change the hydraulic filter?
Thanks.

Yes I would change it. It'll get anything left over from manufacturing and stuff from break in. I'm sure it's still in great shape but is cheap insurance.

I have a neighbor who will change it for me but we cannot figure out where the second filter goes. I suppose I will have to break down and call the Deere dealer who sold it to me.
Thank you.

What are the numbers on the filters?

It's fair for you to ask the dealer..
and as for the hydraulics.. the pumps are pumping fluid all the time and the filters will keep it clean (er).

One is used up to tractor serial number 340000. The other is used for tractors built with serial number 340001 and later.

So the Deere parts man may have sold me two filters, just to be sure one would function. Interesting, as their company sold us the tractor and should have had the serial number on file.

As I am now in charge of maintaining both tractors, I was going over the manual to see what else needs doing. I could not find some grease fittings on the 5055e(4wd) front axles. And I looked at the cooling reservoir, it was empty. Should I put fluid in it? I do have some Prestone concentrate antifreeze/coolant I can put in it.
Thanks for inputs.

Go by the book, and be careful not to mix the non-compatible coolants..

Did the dealer explain to you about the two different hyd filters?
