Now that would have made a great video!

This was before video cameras. There was the old 8mm film cameras, though.

Dad told me "If there is any snow on the inclined ramp to shovel it first". Me being a smart a... 18yr old, "naw I will get out." Well I didn't get out without that trick. Later in time I helped a county tandem axle snow plow with a large angle front plow truck get unstuck. He stuck the front tip into a snow bank and could back up because of the ice under his tires from spinning. So I had him throw some sand out and I threw it under each spinning set of duals until he backed out. Jon

I can 1-up that. I've had 4100 lbs (green oak firewood) in the bed of my '05 F250 and it was not squatted like that (or even much at all). Once i realized how overloaded i was i started backing off how much I loaded in... He must have like 8k back there.

i've had my goosneck on my f450 drw loaded with enough hay rounds that I wouldn't have wanted to have been stopped and weighed.. and yet I wasn't barely squatted nearly anything like that.

If it was a Toyota it would not be on the road that long. They stepped up and bought back at about 140% the value.

Yes they did buy a lot back, then they replaced the frames on the newer ones back then. I know that the frame was not made by Toyota. I used to see car carriers carrying Tacomas to the junkyard to have the engines, transmission and both front and rear differential cut out and crushed. At that point in time they had no other option. This was a huge safety problem. It was buy them back or have a huge black eye they might never would have recovered from. They were smart. The frame manufacturer was then sued, so Toyota was not at a total loss.

I don't see any of the other manufacturers stepping up like Toyota did.

So looking at the pics it appears the truckailer must be front wheel drive only.
That would be by far the easier way to do it, and looks like what they have done. I'm thinking for that reason a Ford with the solid front axel would be better. Not trying to start a brand bash, but people break CV axels all the time. I haven't ever heard of a broken straight axle.

In all honesty it would take a lot to break a Chevy Truck front end CV joint. Only time it happens I've seen is when plowing or extreme off reading. The front end is definitely the weak point of the GM HD trucks but it's still pretty strong, just not as tough as the Fords and Rams.

Biggest issue is with plows!

Yea, but in this case it's doing 100% of the work which it wasn't designed to do. The solid front axel wasn't designed to do that either, but if I'm going to push something above its limits i'd rather have the stronger one.

I agree. But I still think it's plenty strong.

Many 2 wheel drive Cross Overs are Front Wheel Drive and have 3500 to 5000 lb tow ratings and hold together just fine.

Looks like a Chevy, I am surprised that it was not a Toyota Tacoma.

My son has a Tacoma near that condition. Toyota won't honor the recall on it because original owner did not have it inspected during the recall campaign. He's driving on borrowed time.
