17.7 ave MPG for the Titan Cummins?

I am getting close to those numbers out of my 2015 F350 srw. If I keep it around 55 on 2 lane roads I have seen 19+. Most tanks of fuel I am averaging 17 in mixed driving, beyond me why anyone would by that truck. As with mine I have a 1ton not a light 3/4 ton.

If you don't need a 1 ton most of the big 3's 1/2 tons will handle most weekend warriors in a lower maintenance and lower priced gas powered package

What exactly is the difference in a SRW 1 ton and a so called "light 3/4 ton"?

The article used the term light heavy duty. For a 8500 GVWR the Nissan but the Ford F350 is 11,500 and f250 is 10,000+ rated and archive similar mpg. I would have expected much better mileage out of the Nissan.

Also I think ½,¾ and 1 ton don't mean much anymore as a properly equipped ½ ton will handle close to a ton and a 1 ton will handle close 2 ton in the bed

I've known plenty of people with F-350 diesels and none even got close to 23.6 MPG. As usual you are full of it because of your strange love affair with a blue oval that you love so much you talk about it constantly and use as your avi. It's well known that the Cummins engine will get the best mileage in older Diesels as well as how the older Ford Diesels perform. To claim you are getting close to 25 Mpg with a f-350 is ridiculous. Fortunately most of us smell what you are shoveling and know better than to believe stuff like this. To the OP I am somewhat surprised and disappointed with those numbers. I would not buy the Dodge 1/2 tone diesel but I would consider a Cummins in a Nissan. I'd really like to see a s-10 or ranger size truck with a little 4 cylinder diesel that got 35 mpg. It strange how there are so few choices in small pickups.

Believe me if you want. The best mpg period in a modern diesel is the Dmax. I had a 05 that with no mods whatsoever and got a consistent 21 mpg.

There are plenty of others getting my mpg wit modded 6.0 trucks.

Call me what you want with Fords. I have simply had the best luck with them but hands down the best vehicle I have owned to date was my 08 Titan. Super tough truck.

I gotta second the 6.0 mpg. A friend of mine got 24 empty with his F350 crewcab 4x4 back when he hauled rv's.

The key is not speeding, do the limit.

The LBZ dmax got better than the 05 LLY.

Yup those 6.0s really got the milage. My dad had one. About 19mpg with factory engine. That took a crappy. New engine was running around 20 maybe + and got better towing

1/2 ton claims to be able to tow amounts similar to 3/4 and 1 tons but they will not give the same safety tow those weights. Braking and body roll of 1/2 tons are very different.

Older diesels are a subject of history. The days of cheaper high sulphur diesel pre 2007 are long gone . Pre 2007 trucks also have 9+ years of use, miles and road salt corrosion. So quoting mileage of old diesel trucks is wasting everybody's time.
What we are talking about is going out to the dealer and purchasing a gas or diesel 2016 truck and filling it with 10-20% more expensive diesel.
Buddy of mine just paid a $4400.00 USD on his 2004 Duramax for new injectors . I don't see anybody saving any money with diesel trucks.
the glory days when diesel did rule supreme 1989 , through the 1990's and maybe into 2006 at the latest are history.
Thank the meddling social engineers at the EPA for ruining a good thing.

How much pulling power do you want? A few years ago a 318 was good enough to haul 80,00bs of freight plus the weight of the rig . From coast to coast over two mountain ranges . Now some people think they need 400+ HP in a pickup to haul a horse trailer or motor home . It's highway driving, not drag racing.
As for a gassers bad habits with early down shifting and screaming engines. Mine did do that and it was horrible .I fixed that by changing the rpm and ground speed shift points. I have had passengers ask did I swap a diesel into my gas truck .

Gasser HP is different than big truck HP with deisel torqu and 18 gears or whatever! Same with a tractor with 20 Hp and a lawnmower with 20 HP
