It figures the deck just doesn't pop up like in figured it would. I thought it was hit a switch and the deck is lifted up for cleaning and blade sharping. It sounds like a little more work.

One nice thing about the ZD is the built in jack to raise the front end for maintenance. While not as convient as a flip up, it isnt that bad, just got to lay on your back. Way better than trying to rig up a jack or using one of those mower lifts, because the "jack" is always with the machine.

Some companies make an easy flip up deck , Hustler's Z for example. Push button easy

Grasshopper has some units like that and possibly other manufacturers. Definitely an attractive option when I'm lying on my back in gravel to scrape out the deck of our Boomer 1020 or finding a way to lift it to remove the blades.

Ventrac has a flip up deck too.

I've owned 3 different Fs (Sold one of them and a year later bought it back and since then trade it to a ZD326) One was 2 wd and the other two are 4wd. I have raised the front deck on all of them and don't have to disconnect drive shaft. The rear small guide wheels on the deck have simple pins which have to be pushed and hand lift the two small wheels up out of the locked position. There is a built in/on lever that comes out of slot and slid over a piece of metal and then lever pushed back to a locked position. The shock arm has a small cotter pin that is removed to disconnect shock arm. Then the hydraulic lever is lifted or it could have been lifted first which lifts the deck higher than the Z lifts at it's highest point (I think) never lifted my Z but from picture shown). Then the front deck IS HAND LIFTED straight up and there is a lock slot. I'm old and done it several times, maybe not a big sissy like some . It would be much easier with two people but one able bodied man or girl should be able to lift it. Sure a totally hydraulic lift could be added for a couple thousand more but people cry now about the price so sure those of us that can and do lift our decks would NOT want to pay another two thousand for it because it has a rarely used feature....I wouldn't.
Anything can be made almost perfect .....for a price. Is it worth the price? Several of us think so but what do we know, most of us haven't tried the :eek:ther: brands. :D I've only owned one, well eventually three, since 2008. Do think it's worth the price without a Curtis cab, snow blower and not hydraulic totally straight up deck lift, yes I do to the point of putting my money where my mouth is, 4 times since I bought the same one twice.
If you non buyers don't want one or won't pay for one then you don't have to justify that to anyone but yourself so move on and buy what you want without picking the small details of what the F doesn't have. I believe every machine made will have something that doesn't perfectly satisfy every one and that why there are different brands and different models in the brands.
The 2wd Kubota F is less expensive and a great mower. The 4 wd Kubota F is a great 4wd mower and cost more. I have one property I mow that doesn't require 4wd so I bought a 2wd for it and was happy. My home property requires 4wd so I've bought 4wd models for it and am extremely happy. I'm just happy, happy, happy. :D:cool2::cool2:
