I once read in an article, mfg site, or post that a large buildup of material was caused by driving too slow for conditions. More speed would cause it to flow over the blades instead of collect.

I'm collecting parts to build a small one.

Moisture content and type of material being grading makes a HUGE difference with how the material acts when being graded. Yes speed can make a difference if the ground is just so. Other times it simply fills the implement that much faster.
