I've got a couple of Dewalt 18v li-lion tools, and giving thoughts to a battery operated grease gun. Naturally for compatibility, looking at Dewalt, they have an 18v gun, but it's the XRP battery, which I don't think is the same as what I got. In Li-lion, they appear to jump to 20v.

Can anyone clarify this.

If Dewalt abandon us using the 18v Li-lion...then it will be bye bye Dewalt for me.

TSC has a 18 volt grease gun on sale for 139.00

I believe most of the Dewalt systems are backwardly compatible from what I understand.
If you want one ask a dealer if that is so, or take one of your batteries in to them

Now that's a smart idea! Use your battery and give it a go.

Is your Li pack L shaped? If so it should be compatable with the tools that take the 18vXRP nicads like the grease gun (DCGG570B). IIRC they launched the LI packs in that L style for guys who wanted the lithium upgrade but didnt want to throw away their old tools. The new "Lithium" 20v gun (DCGG571M1)takes the flat style pacs

I have a TON of DW 18v XRP packs and tools. I thought very strongly about the XRP grease gun, but went pneumatic instead. If the price on the bare tool drops down I may still get it. In all honesty, Im trying to move away from the DW system, not for laxk of quality (they XRP line is super tough) but heavy weight. Im leaning strongly towards the Makita LXT Brushless line now.

I have several Dewalt 18v tools also. I didn't go battery only on a grease gun choice. I went Lincoln Powerluber. Milwaukee makes a very nice cordless grease gun also.

I've seen Milwaukee and heard good things about it....BUT...I was thinking since I've got two Dewalt 18v Li-ion batteries, that I could keep my cost down by staying with Dewalt. IF, a battery goes bad, which sooner or later they will, then a new battery is used by everything. If you Lincoln's battery goes bad...well it just drives that one thing.

Having said all that...What drove your decision. Right now...I could use an air driven gun and not really need battery driven. I've got several greaseable things, but being retired, greasing normally always in the barn. NOW..if I'd get a batwing (which is a maybe) that could change.

Cordless gives you freedom..

Air works extremely well and is light weight. Got to drag a hose though.
