:laughing: I was thinking what a good coat hanger weld that was. And I've seen a few done years ago by old farmers.
You'd have to look close to see if it was weld or something done by the old rooster.![]()
There is a way to use coathangers for arc welding, it's what people used when they were just starting to experiment. This guy uses waterglass (sodium silicate) to keep the paper on the rods, but I've heard of those old-timers just using wet paper, too. Not as pretty as WH's buddy, though...

I have heard of that as well. Actually there was a thread somewhere on here about an American working in Nigeria, where the natives would steal chain link fencing to use as welding rod.
