I got a call from someone with this outfit out of Omaha - The Ultimate Marketplace

He said he saw my listing for sale on TractorHouse.com and told me that he works to facilitate private buyers by getting them financed to move on machinery they don't have the cash for. So they have a network of about 20 websites where they shop classifieds and post them to buyers who have a certain price range. Then, they finance the buyer, take $400 from the sales price (that's what I was told) and make their money on the points from the financing.

All the buyers are regional, and they then come to meet you face to face with a cashier's check to personally take delivery of the machine.

Everything about it seems pretty legit, but in today's day and age, your gut just tells you to do your homework on these non-traditional things.

Anyone ever heard of these guys, or any group that does something similar?

I haven't heard of them, but I would be leery of cashier's checks these days. I work in finance and they are just not as trustworthy a transaction as they used to be:

Avoiding Cashier's Check Fraud

Many consumers have become victims of scams involving a fraudulent cashier痴 check. A cashier痴 check is a check that is issued by a bank, and sold to its customer or another purchaser, that is a direct obligation of the bank. Cashier痴 checks are viewed as relatively risk-free instruments and, therefore, are often used as a trusted form of payment to consumers for goods and services.
However, cashier痴 checks lately have become an attractive vehicle for fraud when used for payments to consumers. Although, the amount of a cashier痴 check quickly becomes "available" for withdrawal by the consumer after the consumer deposits the check, these funds do not belong to the consumer if the check proves to be fraudulent. It may take weeks to discover that a cashier痴 check is fraudulent. In the meantime, the consumer may have irrevocably wired the funds to a scam artist or otherwise used the funds熔nly to find out later, when the fraud is detected葉hat the consumer owes the bank the full amount of the cashier痴 check that had been deposited....

Heard of them myself they called looked at the F rating and told Jay Miller he just hung up on me. If a company is valid you would think they would answer your questions. Also found out they are just a local advertising co. Only has links. I would not do any business.

I think that's who called me, too: Jay.

Yeah I never returned that call. Seemed like too high of a risk.

The Ultimate Marketplace...Buyer Beware.
My story; Ray Miller from the Ultimate Marketplace, called me on my ad that I had out for some equipment for sale. He said he has buyers for the equipment and would assist in the financing and sale of my equipment, He would just need me to send $399.00 to initiate the sale and get their financing department started with the paperwork. To make a very long story short. I bought into his trustworthy story and it ended up being a scam. All they did was copy and paste an ad that I had placed with a reputable company and put my equipment on Ebay and Craigs list and so on. I received so many stupid calls it was not funny. Luckily I paid their charges with a credit card, disputed it and won based on fraud and copyright infringement by the just taking my ad and copying and pasting it onto other sale sights. Do not buy into the lies, take my bad experience and say, NO THANK YOU!

Regarding cashiers checks, I would rather take a personal check to the bank. They can verify a personal checking account has the funds immediately whereas a cashiers check for some reason cant be verified.

Thanks for sharing your experience here. It will be very helpful for people searching for info on these guys in the future.

It all definitely sounded "too good to be true"... which we all know usually means it IS too good to be true, ha!

Another common scam on the web nowadays.. Same type of people calling on Craigslist ads too.. Especially RV's and Tractors.
