I would consider the 5.0 just as complex or maybe more than the ecoboost. It has twin independent variable cam timing. The 6.2 is probably the simplest engine in a Ford truck.

Diesels have high combustion temps. They can last pretty long.
Got any numbers?
My turbo charged gas cars ran 1200-1600 degrees at the turbo inlet under full load running 93 octane and the diesel trucks only ran around 600-800 degrees. Diesel burns much cooler. Both slightly modified stock wasn't that different.
Again, gas and diesel engines are not nearly as comparable as most think...

Here is another from 1/13/22
"Secondly, ever priced out a fuel injector for a Direct Injected engine? $$$$ "
and power.
And I still agree that direct injectors are expensive. Keep spending time reading all my old posts, your just repeating what I've been saying all along...
As for simple, look at my quote you posted again. A tried and proven normally aspirated pushrod, V8 making great power with average fuel mileage. Add in a well designed transmission and watch the efficiency go up.

News Flash, the Ecoboost does too! Only it adds two expensive turbos, extra cooling hardware, special computer controlled torque convertor to keep said turbos spooled, etc...

I searched you posts at your request. You were expressing your dislike of direct injection.

So you are now touting an average engine paired with a great transmission to improve performance and efficiency. Why not step outside the box and have a great engine and great transmission. I agree the 8-speed looks great. Pair it with something modern and watch out.

I was always a bare bones guy for simplicity's sake....I'm now hooked on all of the goodies starting with my 2 previous 90's era Silverado's and my last 2004 Sierra and the load of toys on my 2011 Sierra...I have no complaints (the adjustable pedals are kinda useless as I've never touched that button...The pedals are where God put them).

The stab contol actually isn't a bad thing..I was suspicious at first like everyone else but's it's grown on me now...Forunately only a few engagments...The engine braking, OEM brake controller are all welcome advancements..Auto 4wd setting is a beautiful thing if you go in and out of weather as I constantly do---Not AWD, didn't want that.

The motors get better and better, my current 6.2 is the best motor I've ever had...Including the 396 in my Chevelle...I loved my '77, '76, '79, & 70 Chevy/GMC pickups/K5 but I wouldn't want to drive them 60+ miles a day to work anymore and none of those could tow or haul like the 2011; including the '76 with a '69 Vette 350, or the '77 with a dyno'd/blueprinted 406 (they were screamers, but didn't have the all around utility that I have now).

Yeah, you pay dearly for it but I remember my dad buying the '76 new and he was complaining about the cost then...It was like 6 or 7 grand when a newly built 1800sqf house in our area was around 25K....If you think about it, the average house around here is about 170k the average truck---guessing 32k from my shopping...Not much has changed, just the numbers got bigger.

Actually I expressed my dislike of the Ecoboost. Again, if I disliked direct injection in general then I wouldn't have bought one...

If that "average" engine can match or top the performance of a "modern" yet expensive engine and average drivetrain then why go for the expensive over proven reliability?
This thread is about useless stuff on modern trucks and all that added technology in the Ecoboost is a perfect example in my eyes.

I did not know that but I do now.

Do you have so much hatred towards the Ecoboost because one out ran you:laughing:

Go to the track someday, the Ecoboost usually gets the jump with lower gearing but the HEMI horsepower runs it down by the end of the 1320.
HP wins every time!

I don't need an automatic transmission. Give me an old school stick.
