Great 'Little' Big Tractor
Model Year: 2009
Expanding our row crop operation called for hydraulics. After shopping Massey Furguson, New Holland, Deere and Kubota, I wanted the Deere based on weight and bucket lift capacity/breakout force. The Kubota salesman was very aggressive, and with 60 month 0%, I went orange. 2009 M5040 Hydraulic shuttle, FEL, cat II 3pt, 540/100 rear PTO, 2 rear remotes. I sold the tractor two weeks ago (made sense $-wise) and now I realize how much I used it! Friends of mine with smaller tractors talked of my needing a winch for the woods. With the rears loaded with Rim-Guard and the FEL on, I never met anything I couldn't just drag. No winch required! It really is designed as a 'farm' tractor, not a weekend toy. Hydraulic shuttle was great for my use. HST would have been better for loader work, but I prefer gears for ground engagement. If you are going to use this in the woods, you need to build a skid plate for the hydraulic filters. She will NOT move after you poke a 3" sapling through the filters. Trust me! And the yearly fluid changes are around $500! But She was a beast, and would probably pick up and/or drag around my next tractor. I think my only real complaint was the design on the loader joystick. Really crappy design which wore out quickly. Great tractor!
Pros: Power, traction, and breakout force are awesome!
Cons: Not maneuverable enough in short row crops.
