Video shows how I replace the snowblower shear pin on my BX - the video finishes up with some snow clearing with the new pin in place. This is the second of two videos I've done on shear pin replacement.

Good video Bob . Looks like you got much more snow than we did out here . We are getting rain now . I don't have my blower put on the tractor yet . For me it is going to be a whole new way of removing snow as I never used one before . Shear pin replacement . Do you break many shear pins ? I see you bought extra to have on hand . I guess I should pick up some the next time I am in town .

I always try to have a couple of shear pins on hand but I always appreciate having my FEL ready to go when needed (no fun replacing a shear pin in a raging storm with no good backup way of getting back to shelter). I would say I go through perhaps 3 pins a year. Most go due to human error :) - like being too aggressive speed wise or having the chute deflector tilted down too much when the snow is heavy or not having the engine rpm high enough.

Heck, that's not snow. THIS is snow.

Oops! Forgot the visuals.

This was what greeted me upon arrival at the cottage (near Algonquin park) Thursday afternoon. Needless to say, I was not going to drive through that into the driveway, until the old BX2789 had done its work!

great video, I wrap electric tape around the bolts on shafts, that way I dont lose the ends and have the nut to reuse

It appears to me the shear bolt is on the wrong location being close to the tractor.

I think your pto shaft is made by COMER.

I asked a COMER tech specialist which end of the shaft the shear bolt should be on:

David,

The protection device is usually on the implement end. The torque is driven by the implement and you want to protect the gearbox on the implement.

Thanks,

Chris

It might not make much difference but if it did save the blower gearbox from damage it would be worth doing.
